Dragonfly Mini Art Journal Page

Hello Blank Page Muse Fans!  Today, I thought I would share a mini art journal page that was recently added to my Bullet Journal.  This is a 8.2" X 5.5" format size, so the design could be used on an over-sized card as well, or expanded into a full sized 8.5 X 11 page with room to add more stamped dragonflies.

Supplies:
8.2" X 5.5" notebook page
Dragonfly Stamp
Flower border
Happiness Blooms from Within Sentiment Stamp
United Rings Stamp from Hearty Doodles set
Black Pigment Ink
White Pigment Ink
Clear embossing Powder
Distress Crayons [Gelatos or similar water based ink can work, in this case Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers by Tim Holtz Distress Oxides were used]
Brush [A watercolor brush with it's own reservoir was used in this case]
Water

Instructions:
1. Scribble a mid-range green Distress Crayon across the top of your blank page filling in half of the page.  Taking your blue, scribble from the bottom to the middle of the page. Overlap a bit in the center.

2. Using your brush and some water, brush across the page, blending the crayons and diluting the colors.  Pull edge to edge, drawing out the color to the paper borders.  It should look like a light wash of color framing the heavier colored center. Once  it's all blended out, allow to dry.

3. Once dry, stamp out corner (upper left) to opposite corner (bottom right) in black pigment ink the flower border and emboss.

4. Stamp Sentiment with black pigment ink centered on page, then embossed.

5. Stamp the dragonfly on the left side, near the text and the flowered border stamp. Emboss with the clear powder.

6. Inking up with white pigment ink, stamp the Linked-Circle stamp a bit randomly, filling in some of the negative space and open areas.  Emboss using the clear embossing powder.

I found this page was super easy and an inspirational way to enjoy the beginning of the summer months.

Not my Monkeys

Hi! I'm a HUGE fan of the Wizard of Oz, so when I realized I would be able to find many of the original illustration images here at Blank Page Muse, I was ecstatic!

Childhood memories of reading the original books and watching the movie came back to me.
The Monkeys, as a child, scared me like you wouldn't believe, but these images makes them look so adorable.  I was compelled to make this whimsical card using a saying I tend to fall back on a lot.

Supplies:

Flying Monkey from The Wizard of Oz III Art Rubber Stamp Sheet Set SC66

Black Archival Ink
Watercolor Pens in light browns, beige, light pink, red and yellow
Cardstock White 4 x 5 1/4 (A2 envelope)
Cardstock 8.5 X 11" Purple sheet [Will be cut down into an A2 Card, if you already have a Purple cardstock card already made, use that and a small scrap of matching paper]
Bone folder
Corner Rounder
Distress Oxides: Mermaid Lagoon, Broken China and Blueprint
Blending Brush
Label Printer [If you do not have access to a label maker, printer, stencils, etc. you can always hand write the sentiment]
Post-It Notes with adhesive on the entire back or Masking Paper
Scissors
Adhesive
Double-Stock Foam Tape

Instructions:
1. Grab the stamp and ink it up with the black archival ink, stamping near the center of your white card stock and stamp off on a stack (at least 6 small sheets together) of post-it notes.  In this instance, the post-it notes were then fussy cut out once, layered one on top of the other.  Once done, separate the masks.

2. Wait for the ink to completely dry, using one mask, layer it over the center stamped image to completely cover and protect it.  Stamp another of these images just below the first, allowing the stamp to partially cover over the mask.  Once that ink is dry, place the next mask over that one to protect it.  Continue to stamp, wait for ink to dry, then cover that image, layering the Flying Monkey around the card. Fill the card as much as you can.

3.  Taking the Distress Oxides and a blending brush, begin to color the background.  Leave the masks on as you blend, going lightest hue to darkest.  Once the background is completely blended to your satisfaction, allow the ink to completely dry. Once it is dry, remove the masks.

4. Now it's time to color the Flying Monkeys using your watercolor markers!  Do not worry about shadowing or any fancy coloring techniques.  These stamps have a lot of their own details, lines and shadows, so let the stamp do it's thing!

5. Corner punch the corners. Ink the edges with the black ink pad carefully.

6. Cut a card base -- unless you already have one -- our of the purple cardstock at 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 (for an A2 envelope). Having a bone folder and Score Buddy is handy, but if you have a ruler and some sort of stick (opposite end of a pen, Popsicle stick, etc), you can make the folds as well.

7.  "Not my Circus" and "Not my Monkeys" needs to be printed off.  My old school Dymo Embossing Label Maker is one of my most prized possessions and are still being sold on Amazon (as well as other places) with varying colored tapes.  After printing those off on green tape, a scrap of purple was used to mat them.

8. Center mount the stamped card to the purple card base using adhesive (glue stick, glue dots, whatever you have on hand).  Once glue is dry, cut out several strips of foam tape, layering two on top of each other, then cut and attach to the matted text.  After, arrange "Not My Circus" slightly down from the top and center to the stamped image.  "Not My Monkeys" gets added lower, closer to the bottom of the image, center.

9. Fold over and you're done.

It's ready to be used as a note card and to bring a little attitude to your friends and family.
 No Monkey business here!

Sunny Treat Gift Bag

Spring is in the air, BPM fans!
Are you looking forward to sunny days ahead?
This treat bag, which would be great for fun little gifts or name tags for your table.
Whatever you use this for, it's super easy to make and can be changed to other themes by changing out the colors and stamped images.

Supplies:
White Lunch Sack
Glossy White Stamping Paper
White cardstock scrap for star
Random small paper circles in matching colors and small rectangles (Scraps were used for these)
Doily
Watercolor Pens
Tim Holtz Distress Crayons (or equivalent type)
Black Archival Ink
Double-sided foam tape
Paper Die Cut 3-Dimensional Star (Sizzix 661595 Thinlits Die Set, Dimensional Stars by Tim Holtz)

Instructions:

1. Stamp Sun using archival ink to the glossy card stock.  After ink dries, begin coloring sun.  Once done, fussy cut sun out.

2. Using the crayons, color all sides of the white lunch bag.

3. Use a circle scrap that fits behind the sun (3" one should work fine), attach the sun to the circle, then the circle to the doily.  In my case, the doily I used was one I made with a large die out of velum, but any doily or larger circle cut from decorative matching paper will work. Punch out your 3-D star, color and decorate as you like.  I added a random stamp "smile" on mine.

Die cut doily, 3" circle out of a metallic cut that was on hand, fussy cut sun, narrow rectangle and star punched out and decorated.
4.  Finding a few more smaller circle scraps, arrange the pieces where they will eventually land on the card.  Leave at least a 2" at the top of the bag free from embellishments.  That will be where the bag will fold closed.

5. Fold the top of the bag at 1" from the top and another fold at 2" from the bag opening.

6. Glue down your various embellishments.

7. Option is to punch two holes through the top folded to draw a ribbon through to act like an enclosure.

It's now ready for giving.

Love Signs

Hey BPM Fans!
Mercy here again with another project that is sure to brighten a room, wall, or shared area.
Many chain stores as well as online outlets, have a variety of compressed wood pieces that are perfect for decorating.  In my example, the Love sign was found in the holiday section of Dollar Tree.
It's smooth porous surface is great for inking, stamping, collage, and general altering.
Really, the sky's the limit with these forms and stamping with permanent ink really showed up remarkably well.

Steampunk themed stamps were used for this project, however any themed stamps would look really great on them for a variety of rooms, seasons and uses.

Supplies:
Dylusions Inks: Yellow and Red
Composite Wood Sign
Permanent Archival Black Ink
Vintage Gold Wax by Prima
Post-it Notes
Inexpensive Sponges
Scissors

Instructions:

1. Spray lightly at the top of your composite sign some of your yellow ink.  Use the sponge to rub in ink, and wipe off, pulling the yellow down the letters.  Dab any excess yellow ink to some scrap papers to reuse later.  Once the yellow is dry, spritz the bottom of each letter lightly, blending with the same sponge the ink there, pulling the red up into the yellow.  Intermingle the inks for a rainbow like affect from the top of each letter, down to the bottom.  Allow to dry.

2. Organize each of the stamps to figure out the best layout for each to be added to the letters.  Try to visualize where the best placements are along the letters for each image. In this case, the stamps were flipped over for spacing, arranged by size as well as theme, making sure as much of the image would be shown on the letters.  Once you decide on best placements, move the stamps off the sign so that you know exactly where to stamp each on the project.

3.  Ink up your stamps with the black archival pad, making sure the stamp is completely covered in it.  It's important to make sure all the stamps, before you stamp, are inked evenly since you have one chance to really get this right.  Once confident the stamp is loaded perfectly, carefully stamp directly on the letters.

4. Stamp all the images to the surface, making sure not to overlap.  If you want overlap or layering, use the post-it notes and mask off the images you wish to protect as the top layer image.

5. Once all the inks are dry and surface is completely decorated, use Vintage Gold wax and apply to all the edges.

Check to see that everything is dry to touch before hanging on a door, standing on a table, or wherever you are needing a little love.

Art Journaling Cards

Hi BPM fans!

Mercy here to chat with you about putting some pizzazz into your scrapbooking.  If you're like me, you might like the photo cropping and page design part of the process, but the journaling part is a real struggle.  I'm personally uninspired to write down notes about whatever event I'm scraping and have found myself not bothering for years.  And then, by that time, I forget dates, times and details of that day.  If I do bother to journal, it's usually on a boring piece of scrap and really, doesn't help the actual format of the page.  Wanting to change things up with my layouts, I thought it might be nice to highlight the journaling itself by creating these decorative journal boxes to be added onto simplier pages to dress them up.

As I created these, I had a lot of fun with coming up with different formats and images for the journaling boxes. Part of my challenge with this project was to try an use up some twenty plus year old embossing powder and some of the many scraps I have for this project.

Supplies:

(Shop now and save! Use code BPMDtMercy2019 to save %15 off your total order!)

Cardstock Scraps in White, Light Green, & Red
Versamark Ink (or any clear Embossing ink you have)
Black Archival Ink
Distress Oxide Mustard Seed
Gold Embossing Powder
Black Fine Embossing Powder

Instructions:

1. Find some scraps of paper that you need to use up and cut into 4 X 2.5 strips of paper.

2. Taking the darker shaded scrap paper, ink the entire surface in Versamark ink and heat embossed with gold embossing powder (you can use any color for this since you are embossing its surface).  Make sure to cover the entire page with several layers of embossing to get a smooth golden finish and no paper should be exposed.

3. Once the first sheet is cool, set aside and stamp out the various pens, logos and images onto white card stock in black permanent ink with embossing ink and black powder. Heat emboss.  After everything is cooled, fussy cut out the pens, ink bottle and smaller stamped images.

4. Cut 3 separate 3 3/4 X 2.1/4 pieces of white card stock and one light green scrap.

5. Grabbing one of the white 3 3/4 X 2.1/4 papers, stamp top center of the white paper using the One Penny Geo W. Hughes stamp with embossing ink, then heat emboss with black powder.

Embossed strip of paper and  the cut down white cardstock with the One Penny stamp impressed.
6. Add the connected Connected Circles in Mustard Seed stamped randomly across the white areas. Ink the edges of the card. Adhere the white stamped card to the embossed scrap.

7. Take the Crackle Background Art Rubber Stamp and the light green cropped paper, stamp across the entire scrap.  Fill in the edges and outer rim of the paper with the small Dotted Stamp. Keep in mind to allow the paper below to show through.

Small dotted stamp from the Hearty Doodle set.
8. Glue the stamped paper to the embossed background card. Stamp with archival black ink on a red scrap using one of the larger heart doodles.  Fussy cut the heart out and glue it to the bottom left corner.

9. Taking the last two white cropped papers, stamp randomly with the connected circle stamp in yellow ink. Adhere that paper to the embossed paper, centering it. Take the remaining fussy cut embossed images (pens, ink bottle, etc) and arrange across the yellow inked paper. Leave room for journaling. Once you arrange the way you prefer, glue everything down.

10. Attach these to scrapbook pages, or slide into photo albums. Journal across them. Share your thoughts and dream through them.

Completed journaling cards.  Using this same technique, you can experiment with other stamps as well from Blank Page Muse to match your scrapbooking pages.

Journal Away!
