Gift Card Holder on a Burlap Background

 

Hello! Welcome back to the Blank Page Muse Blog. For today's card, I used the BPM Denim & Lace Digital Printable Kit. This is my second post in this month using this digital kit. I used one of the pocket digital print outs on my card. This page includes two pocket images. After I downloaded the page, I cropped the pocket image I used on my card. You don't have to. I just like to maximize my paper by collating all the images I will be using on a project. 

I resized this image to 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". I used Word for Windows in editing the image. I set the margins to zero to maximize the area on the white lightweight cardstock.

The pocket print out has outlines included in the design for folding the image into a pocket. I scored on the line print outs.

The pocket print out also has a notch line printed as part of its design. I used a circle punch to create the notch but you can use scissors instead.

To create the burlap, I adhered a heavy weight kraft cardstock to a double adhesive sheet. 

I burnished the double adhesive sheet to the cardstock. I ran this through my die cut machine using a burlap die. With the adhesive on the back of this intricate die cut, it was easier to adhere it to an acetate and make it look like its floating.

For the sentiment, I prepped the digital print out for embossing using an anti-static powder tool. After stamping the sentiment using a black pigment ink, I poured clear embossing powder over it, then heat set it. 

I adhered glue to the sides of the small flap to create the pocket to insert a gift tag into.

I stamped a sentiment on the inner first flap of this gift card holder. I trimmed off an 8th of an inch from the top and bottom of this gift card holder before adhering it to the burlap background.

Doesn't that digitally printed burlap look real?

Birthday Card with a Gift Card Pocket

Hello! Welcome back to the Blank Page Muse Blog. Last month, Blank Page Muse released the Denim & Lace Digital Printable Kit. This kit includes 4 zip files. It features junk journal images for printing at home. But who said it can only be used for junk journal, right?

One advantage of digital prints is that you can crop out the image that you will use on your project. You can combine all these images on a sheet for easy printing and also to save on paper. Another advantage is being able to resize these digital images. You can also maximize the printing area by rotating some of the images which I did on the tags on the bottom of the paper. 

I used a paper trimmer to cut the printed digital images.

I used a craft knife to trim off the tags.

I switched to the scissors to cut the curves.

I used a small circle punch for the small buttons. 

For the larger button, I used a small circle die to cut it off. The circle die I used is not open on the center so I created a cutting template to guide me cut the digital print button. I die cut the circle on a scrap cardstock. I lined the opening to the digital print button. I secured the papers together with a washi tape. I positioned the circle die over the opening of the cardstock template.

I ran this through the die cut machine. If the button does not get cut with the first passing, this trick should leave a marking on the digital print button to guide you in positioning the circle die. Just run it through the die cut machine without the template and it should cut the circle.

I blended brown ink on the edges of the rectangular brown digital paper.

I also inked the edges of the digital print tags, strips and buttons.

For the sentiment, I used gold letter rub ons. I used a bone folder to transfer the rub ons to the digital printed tag. 

It might not be perfectly aligned but I like it. 

I used a hole punch to add a hole to the tags.

I added metallic snaps to the tags using an eyelet setter. 

When I was editing these images, I resized this brown panel to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" but somehow, the print out it is about a fourth inch shorter than an A2 card.

I adhered a gold washi tape to the ends of the front card panel to cover the white edges. I adhered the brown dotted panel to the front of the note card.

I adhered the tags to the card front. I adhered the wide digital print strip over the tags making it look like the tags are tucked inside this blue strip pocket.

I love the print on this wide blue strip. It looks very realistic.

I need to create a pocket for a gift card. I adhered the same gold washi tape to the sides on the inside of the card, on the bottom part, mimicking the design of the card front. I added a thin line of glue to the sides and bottom edge of the digital print strip. I adhered this on top of the gold washi tape. I made sure that the bottom of the strip is aligned to the bottom edge of the card.

I adhered the buttons to both strips as additional accents.

Faux Stained Glass Luminary

Hello! Welcome back to the Blank Page Muse Blog. For today's post, I created a Christmas home decor using the following BPM products:

• Christmas Stained Glass stamp

I also used an upcycled acetate. 

I temporarily adhered the stamp to a stamping tool using a washable glue stick. 

I prepped the acetate for stamping by rubbing an anti-static tool over it. This is very vital in keeping the embossing powder from sticking to other areas other than the sticky ink. The dirt you see on the photo above is not on the acetate. It is my well loved and used sticky mat which I use to keep the material I will be stamping on in place.

I inked the stamp with an embossing ink.

I used a stamping press to evenly transfer the ink to the acetate. I missed some parts to which I just lightly pressed with my fingers. It might be hard to see the transferred ink with it being clear on an acetate but I just looked from side to side and tilted the stamping tool to the light so I can examine the impression. That is the best thing about using a stamping tool, you can restamp the image with precision.

I poured embossing powder to the sticky ink. I used a platinum embossing powder.

I heat set the powder making sure that I gave the heating tool a good start before directing the heat to the powder. I moved the heat tool constantly to avoid warping the acetate and avoid overheating the powder.

This is how the image looks when embossed.

I colored on the reverse side (unembossed side) of the image I used Tim Holtz Distress Crayons. You don't need a lot of pigment when using this medium.

I spread the color towards the rest of the image using my finger.

The crayons added a very faint, transluscent color to the stamped image.

This is how the colored image looks on a dark background.

I painted a shimmer liquid on the background but this remained wet despite setting it aside for a while. I painted a thin layer of glitter glue over it. I set this aside to dry.

I printed one of the full digital papers on a white 80 lb cardstock. I resized this digital print to 8 1/2" x 6". The program you are using might re-size this digital image for printing. I used Word for Windows which printed it at 8" x 6" despite setting it to 8 1/2" x 6".

I trimmed off the white areas from the printed area. I scored the paper at 3 3/4" and 7 1/2".

I folded the paper on the scored line and reinforced this fold with a bone folder.

 

I positioned the stamp on one of the folds, centered on the sides and closer to the bottom. I stamped the image on this fold using a black dye ink.

Just like when I stamped with the embossing ink, I used a stamp press to evenly transfer the image to the paper. If there are missed spots, I used my fingers to lightly press that area of the stamp.

This is how the image looks stamped on the printed digital paper using black dye ink.

I restamped the image on the other fold panel. This is another great thing about using a stamp positioner. I am assured that it will be stamped on the same place like the other panel.

This is one of the craft knives I used to cut the image and create a window. One important thing when using a craft knife is that it should be sharp to prevent an uneven cut. The other craft knife I used is not a rotating one.

I switched to the scissors at one point since I was getting more uneven cuts using the craft knife.

I used a nail file to smoothen any rough cut edges.

Aside from the embossed images on acetate, I have four more stamped images on digitally printed paper which I will save for future use.

I added double adhesive tape lining up the window. 

I added liquid glue around the double adhesive tape.

I adhered the acetate to the window with the embossed side down (outward toward the printed area). I made sure the design is aligned with the window cut.

I added liquid glue to the 1/2" tab.

I connected the folded panels together, lining it up with each other. 

 

I used a color changing tea light on the above photo which gave a different look when the room light was turned off. I love the effect especially when the tea light turned blue. The light I used on the first photo is a fairy light which I wished was the twinkling kind. Which of the two do you like more?
