Guest Designer Jenn Durand ~ Step by Step Distress Oxide Card Background with Focal Point

Hello everyone! It's Jenn back on the blog today for the February theme of Use Any Three Stamps.
The stamps I chose are:
 Pressed Metal Look Filigree Background
 Dare to be Different
Vintage Style Hybrid Mystical Character Bird Man
I started by stamping the background with Distress Oxide Ink in Weathered Wood, Faded Jeans, and Black Soot. I spritzed the Weathered Wood and Faded Jeans layers with water to allow the colors to bleed. I wanted Bird Man to really stand out and have the spotlight so I did the ink leaving a bit of an open area. This was achieved by inking around the area on the stamp and also wiping away ink with a paper towel.

I did not use water with the Black Soot layer because I wanted more of the gorgeous details to show. Seriously, this background stamp has amazing details! Look at the edge! I'm swooning!

Next I stamped the Bird Man with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and fussy cut it. He is so weird and surreal and that is what I absolutely LOVE about him.

Although he can stand on his own, I decided to give him a little something extra. I started by coloring his cape with Faded Jeans. I smooshed a little ink on my craft mat, sprayed a tiny bit of water, and used a brush to apply the color.

Because Bird Man is all that, he got the sparkle treatment. I hit his plumage with a Gelly Roll pen.

I stamped Dare to be Different with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and cut it to size.

Time to put it all together! I layered the card panel with black and adhered it to the card. I also layered Dare to be Different with black and adhered it to the to the card panel with foam tape. Bird Man also got foam tape. This made him the same height as Dare to be Different so I put a little glue on his sword to stick to the sentiment. The finishing touch was some Nuvo Drops in Ebony Black.

I hope you like it! I enjoyed making it so much that I decided to do it in brighter colors, too.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today. I hope to see you again next month. In the meantime, please check out my Instagram accounts:

Hope you have a craftacular day!
-Jenn
