Guest Designer Jenn ~ Home Decor Anything But a Card Challenge

Hello everyone! I'm so happy to be back on the blog today with this month's theme of Not a Card.

I created a little piece of home decor—something you could put on a desk or a shelf or anywhere really!
I started with a small wooden pot that I picked up at a local craft store.

I painted it with some acrylic paint in yellow and a sort of raspberry color. I am really into this color palette lately. I like how the colors combine to make orange so you really end up with three colors. (At the last minute, I added some Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink and a little white paint as well. You can see that in the pictures at the end.)
Once the pot was dry, I stamped all sides of it with the gorgeous Fancy Curls & Flowers Flourish Art Rubber Stamp by Terri Sproul. I love this stamp!!

Next, I stamped the Bird Open Wings Patterned Art Rubber Stamp with black ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. Once I fussy cut it, I colored it with Distress Oxide Ink in Mustard Seed and Picked Raspberry. I ended up cutting the bird shape on another piece of paper and coloring that with Distress Oxide Ink as well. I needed to be able to hide the wire I was going to use to hold up the bird. (A photo of that is at the end.)

I got a piece of floral wire, cut it to length, and wrapped it in washi tape.

Then I took my stamped, embossed, and colored bird along with my plain bird shape and put them together on the wire using mounting tape. I put a small piece of floral foam in the bottom of the pot and put the wire in.

I added some Spanish moss and dabbed it with some white paint for a little contrast.

Finally, I stamped the Dare to Fly Small Word Art Stamp on white paper, cut it to size, layered it with black paper, and adhered it to the pot.

I really enjoyed making this! It was just the right project to welcome spring.
This is my last post for a bit while I deal with some medical issues. I hope to be back in a couple of months. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy and kind. Remember, we're all in this together!

Dare to Dream Wind Chime

Hello all

I have a new project for The Blank Page Muse Stamps and this week i have a wind chime to share.
products used

Acrylic paints
Makeup sponges
Circle Cutting dies
Card Stock.
Beads
Thread
Dowel

Use a circle nesting die to cut out three different shaped circles. Cut out two of each so you can stick them back to back. You will need to cut out three pairs of each circle size.
Use a makeup sponge to dab on acrylic paint in your choice of color.

Use the Dare to Dream stamp and ink it up.
Press each of the circles onto the stamp to get a bit of the pattern on each one.

Take some thread and thread a few beads on. Then add glue to one of the circles and sandwich it between the thread.

Then add another layer of beads followed by the circles. Finish off each strand with a big bead or charm, repeat this process until you have three strands of beads and circles.

Take a thick piece of dowel and tie twine around the ends to create a hanger.
Tie each strand to the doweling to finish the wind chime.

Love Signs

Hey BPM Fans!
Mercy here again with another project that is sure to brighten a room, wall, or shared area.
Many chain stores as well as online outlets, have a variety of compressed wood pieces that are perfect for decorating.  In my example, the Love sign was found in the holiday section of Dollar Tree.
It's smooth porous surface is great for inking, stamping, collage, and general altering.
Really, the sky's the limit with these forms and stamping with permanent ink really showed up remarkably well.

Steampunk themed stamps were used for this project, however any themed stamps would look really great on them for a variety of rooms, seasons and uses.

Supplies:
Dylusions Inks: Yellow and Red
Composite Wood Sign
Permanent Archival Black Ink
Vintage Gold Wax by Prima
Post-it Notes
Inexpensive Sponges
Scissors

Instructions:

1. Spray lightly at the top of your composite sign some of your yellow ink.  Use the sponge to rub in ink, and wipe off, pulling the yellow down the letters.  Dab any excess yellow ink to some scrap papers to reuse later.  Once the yellow is dry, spritz the bottom of each letter lightly, blending with the same sponge the ink there, pulling the red up into the yellow.  Intermingle the inks for a rainbow like affect from the top of each letter, down to the bottom.  Allow to dry.

2. Organize each of the stamps to figure out the best layout for each to be added to the letters.  Try to visualize where the best placements are along the letters for each image. In this case, the stamps were flipped over for spacing, arranged by size as well as theme, making sure as much of the image would be shown on the letters.  Once you decide on best placements, move the stamps off the sign so that you know exactly where to stamp each on the project.

3.  Ink up your stamps with the black archival pad, making sure the stamp is completely covered in it.  It's important to make sure all the stamps, before you stamp, are inked evenly since you have one chance to really get this right.  Once confident the stamp is loaded perfectly, carefully stamp directly on the letters.

4. Stamp all the images to the surface, making sure not to overlap.  If you want overlap or layering, use the post-it notes and mask off the images you wish to protect as the top layer image.

5. Once all the inks are dry and surface is completely decorated, use Vintage Gold wax and apply to all the edges.

Check to see that everything is dry to touch before hanging on a door, standing on a table, or wherever you are needing a little love.

Tiny Spring Pots

Hi!  Mercy here and spring is (somewhat) in the air.  With trying to keep ahead of the seasons, and in this case, spring ahead of spring with making some decorative flower pots to brighten your home (both indoors and out).  Mini pots from the Dollar Tree were used in this example that came in a set of three, but any earthenware, standard flower pot can be used.  As an added bonus, the decorative pots do not have to have dirt and living plants in them to use, but can be used as storage for other items or just decorative element in a room or in a garden.

Supplies:
Heart & Geometric Stamps
Flower Flourish
Flower Filled with Butterflies
Leaf
Mini Blank Flower Pots
Black Archival Ink
Markers in varying shades of red (pink to red), orange, yellow, purple and green
Stickles (glitter glue)

Instructions:

1. Wipe clean the outside surface of your clay pot with a wet wipe or clean damped with water cloth.  Make sure all dust, dirt an clay particles are clear from the stamping surface.

2. Attach small heart stamp from Hearty Doodles set to a block and using black archival ink, stamp the heart across the belly in intersecting positions.  Once that is complete, clean off small stamp and use Distress Festive Berries and stamp a mall heart border across the lip section.  Allow the hearts to overlap.  Then, take the larger heart from the same Hearty Doodle sheet and impress across the black stamped hearts with Festive Berries.  Once you are happy with the overall stamped surface, start coloring in the hearts using your markers.

2. Allow to dry.  Move on to the next pot using the same concepts as the first, but with different stamps.  In this example, the Flourish Flower was used on the belly of the pot, overlapping slightly, with black archival ink and the leaf stamp was used on the top lip area as a border.  Everything was hand colored with markers.

 3. Since this was a pack of three, another set of BPM stamps were used (this time the butterfly, flower silhouette, distorted circle filter and geometric shapes) to enhance the outside of the pot.  Archival black ink again was used.  The smaller stamps work great on the stamping blocks, but the larger stamps were not mounted to the block as I wrapped the stamp around the curved surface carefully. The porous surface took on the ink beautifully.

4. The last steps on these pots were mostly just adding more color from my markers.  On the heart pot, a dark purple Tombo pen was used to fill in most of the background.  On the flower/butterfly one, I just darkened the background of the lip in a dark red and stamped over it with black archival ink.  To add a bit of sparkle bling and dimension, Stickles were used as dots or coloring some of the hearts.

Note that I used a lot of watercolor and non-permanent colors because they were in my stash of tools.  If you wanted a more permanent color, use your permanent markers and inks more.  You can also spray sealant across the finished pot if you want to make the decorations last longer.

Hopefully these fun pots bring a little spring into your life and hearts!  Happy Stamping!
