Hello, crafty friends! Today, I used this gorgeous stamp, Dawn's Fairy Butterly Wings, to create my card. I decided to use a masking technique, so I could get this beautiful background. Follow along for step-by-step instructions!
First, I stamped the image onto Neenah Classic Crest Cover Solar White 110lb cardstock with Versafine Onyx Black ink. Quality cardstock is so important in papercrafting! People often overlook that and wonder why their ink blending or coloring isn't turning out.
I chose this stamp because I love fairies and this whimsical design was too beautiful to pass up!
I colored her using my Caran d'Ache colored pencils. I rarely use them because I always grab for my Copics. However, I realized I hadn't used the most "Copic-friendly" ink to stamp her and she is so delicate. I thought pencils would be the way to go.
I stamped the image again onto masking paper, then fussy cut the image. I have to admit, this one took a while to complete!
I covered the colored image with the masking paper. When you do this, you can stamp, ink blend, or splatter, or whatever. When you pull up the masking paper, the original image will stay ink the foreground!
I ink blended the background, using pink, orange, and yellow inks. It resembles a sunset to me.
I pulled off the masking paper and here is the result. I had a few, small white halos around the image. This is common. I hid them by using a detail brush and corresponding ink to match the surrounding area.
I trimmed the panel to 3 3/4 x 5" and double matted it in a brown to match the tree branch and a green to match the leaves.
