Follow Your Dreams Art Journal Page

Hey everyone!  I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  Today, I am going to continue with adding pages to a mini album/journal I made last month.  You can see more about that with complete directions for making the album by clicking here

I am loving learning more and more about combining my stamps from Sin City Stamps and mixed media, so I wanted to share with you my first page I am going to add to my album.  The pages are made from a nice, thick card stock that is printed on one side only.  So, I will be working on the print side of one and gluing it to the wrong (white) side of the previous page.

Supplies Used:

Sin City Stamps:  Terri Sproul's Wish stamp set; Sparkle Stencil by Terri Sproul

ColourArte:  Twinkling H20s - Sky BlueOrange PeelSweet LavenderSunflower

Prima 12x12 Script Pad

Chocolate ink pad ((Ancient Page)
Texture Paste (Ranger)
Glue n Seal (Ranger)
Liquid Pearls: Platinum, Peacock (Ranger)

Directions:

Trim card stock to 4-1/2" by 8-1/4".  Cover with a very light coat of clear gesso and let dry.  This will help seal the card stock and allow the paint to work much better, but will not obliterate any of the printed images on it.  Round the corners on the left side of the page, because this will be adhered to the back of the inside page in the book.

Spread texture paste through the sparkle stencil, leaving the edges uneven.  Scrape tiny patches of texture paste with a spatula around page for a cool effect.  Let everything dry.

Stamp three butterflies and two sentiments onto a piece of deli paper with the Chocolate ink pad.
Prepare your Twinks by spritzing some water 2-3 times into each pot to activate the colors.  Add all four colors to the background, misting with water and allowing the colors to run and blend.  Let dry.

Tear deli paper close to each stamped image and adhere to the background with a good adhesive medium, like Glue N Seal.  The deli paper disappears into the background, and gives you crisp, stamped images even over the stenciled paste.
Stamp some dandelions in the open spaces at the bottom of the paper with the Chocolate ink pad.
Color the butterflies with the four Twinks colors, mixing them to your liking.
Make bodies for the butterflies with the Peacock Liquid Pearls.
Add dots of Platinum Liquid Pearls to the dandelions.
This is the book from my previous post.  The inside cover page is what you see extending past the zig zag chipboard cover.  I want to keep that page just as it is because it acts as part of the front of the book.
By working on the first page separately, I was able to keep the printed side of the inside cover page clean.  So, now that my page is completed, I can adhere the two pages together.  This will not only cover the blank white side of the papers, but strengthen the page.  I also rounded the outer corners.
Now that the two are glued together ...
I can punch the binding holes on the side.
Now it is ready to insert into my book.

I hope you enjoyed my mixed media journal page today, and that I have inspired you to make your own journals with your paper stash and these wonderful Sin City Stamp sets.  And this is the perfect time to buy because you can take advantage of this special deal!  Good until the end of the month.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a wonderful and crafty weekend!

P.S.  This is my last post as a member of the Sin City Stamps design team.  Our term is nearing an end and I want to thank everyone for your friendship and support.  However, you may still see me every now and then with more projects to share.  So, until then, happy stamping, everyone!

Altered Art Dominoes and Faux Rust Technique

Hello everyone.  I hope you all are having a wonderful start to your weekend.  I was wracking my brain trying to figure out something new to share with you, but I was re-inspired by a domino project I saw on Pinterest.  Don't you just love Pinterest?  Most of the projects were using alcohol inks, but I am making mine with ColourArte's Radiant Rain Daubers, too.

Dominoes are a fun substrate to use in any of your mixed media work.  You can turn them into a piece of jewelry, you can use them as a focal image on a greeting card, or as a fun embellishment on  a mixed media canvas.

Faux Rusted Technique
Here is is quick video tutorial for this fun little domino, which I turned into a necklace.  I will also show you a fun technique for turning it into a piece of faux rusted metal.  Again, the same techniques can be used for decorating your dominoes for any project.  So have fun with them and enjoy.

I also made a quick and easy matching card to give to someone special, along with the necklace.

I simply stamped the angel image onto a piece of print paper with black archival ink.
Then I used Caran d'ache Neocolor II water soluble crayons to partially color the image.
I used a straight edge ruler to tear around the image, leaving a bit of distress edging, which I highlight with a white pigment ink pad, for a shabby look.  Then I adhered the image to a blue card.  Simple!

Supplies used:

Sin City Stamps:  DressformsWing ItRosette Hearts

ColourArte Radiant Rain DaubersWine & RosesMediterranean BlueHot Cinnamon
Dominoes
White Horn Bead
Black Stazon Ink pad
Permanent Stamp Ink Cleaner
Ranger Clear Rock Candy Glitter
Adirondack Alcohol Inks - Eggplant, Sunset Orange, Gold Mixative
3D Crystal Lacquer
Beacon Quick Grip Glue
Blue card stock
7Gypsies Gypsy Market 6x6 paper pad
Caran d'ache Neocolor II water soluble crayons

Take a look at your stamps in a different way.  Remember, it is not necessary to find small stamps to fit on a domino.  You can use parts of a stamp for fabulous effects.  In fact, this month, Sin City Stamps is offering a free stamp with any purchase of a stamp plate.  So pop on over and check out their fabulous selection now.

I hope you enjoyed my video tutorial and, perhaps, inspired you to make some fun domino embellishments for use in any and all of your mixed media projects or jewelry pieces.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and until next time, have a wonderful creative weekend!

Beauty-ful Cards

Hello fellow stampers.  Barbara here with a couple of cards I've been dying to make using this new stamp set called Big Bold Blossoms by Daniella Hayes.
In example #1, I colored directly onto the stamp with Distress Markers in Dusty Concord (flower), Peeled Paint (leaves), Wild Honey (stamen).  You can take your time coloring onto the stamp because you are going to rehydrate the inks by misting water over the stamp.
You want to mist very lightly, just making the ink look wet, not runny wet, although you can get a very watercolor effect by doing that.  Of course, your image will not be crisp like this one.
I brushed these same colors onto my craft sheet and picked each color up with a water brush, applying it to the image.  I used less water for a deeper color and more water to gain some light highlights.  However, when coloring the stamen, I picked up Mustard Seed from my craft sheet and colored the center in.

In example #2, I simply misted the stamp once more, without adding any more marker colors, and stamped again.  This time, my image is a bit lighter, but still quite visible.
This time, I am going to color the image with Copic markers in V01-Heath andV04-Lilac (flower), YG03-Yellow Green, YG23-New Leaf, and G99-Olive (Leaves), and finally a light application of YG00-Light Mimosa (stamen).  I found this to be an easier and quicker coloring technique because the Copic Markers are alcohol-based and will not affect the image stamped with water-based Distress Markers.

Here is a comparison!  Which one do you like best?  No need to answer, of course, as this is a personal preference.
Now, in this next example (#3), I stamped the image once more, still without adding color to the stamp, just more misted water, and this is where you can see the watercolored effect better.
But what I really want to do with this is cut out the flower and use the negative space as a mask so that I can stamp inside my flower image.
I cut the leaves and stamen out and, with some removable tape added to the back of these pieces, I covered these areas to protect them from my next step.
I wanted to add some script to my flower, but not to my stamen or leaves.  I used the script stamp from the Art Journaling with Terri Sproul 2 stamp set with Black Soot distress ink.
I used this same technique for both of my flower images, and here is the result when I remove the masks.
I fussy cut the flowers and embossed them with a stylus to give them some added dimension.  Emboss the outline of the flower on the stamped side.  Then turn it over and emboss the centers between the embossed lines you made on the front.
You can see the purple one, on the left, is more shapely than the very flat pink one on the right.  Set these aside.
Let's put the first card together.
Stamp striped butterfly from the Terri Sproul's Wish stamp set twice onto scrap white cardstock.with black StazOn.  Color one butterfly with Twinkling H20s in Blue Grass and Golden Opal.
Adhere the two wrong sides together and outline with a black marker.

Stamp "Beauty" onto a scrap of white card stock with Peeled Paint distress ink.  Die cut a label shape around the image.
I used the two colors of Twinkling H20s to color the label, spritzing with water and allowing the colors to marbleize.  I curved this label when adding it, and used the metal studs to appear as if it is holding the label down on each side.
I decided to add the Golden Opal Twinkling H20 to the stamen on this flower, as well as outline the kraft doily with it, for extra shimmer.
Adhere all the pieces to the card, as shown in the photo above.

Card number two is layered over the die cut cream doily that I distressed with Antique Linen distress ink.  A few decorative swirls were die cut from the same die and added beneath the flower.
