Double Page Art Journal Spread

Hello! Welcome back to the BPM blog. I have another art journal page created for you. This time, I created a double page spread. I hope you like it.

The BPM products I used on this spread are:

I first looked for a quote related to leaves. I planned how I would want to illustrate this quote using the stencils.

I started with the ink blending of the leaves which is the focal point of the double page spread. To make the leaves centered, I counted the number of letters of the word that I want to highlight, in this case, it is 'nature.' I positioned the stencil with a leaf close to the center spine.

I masked the open areas around this leaf to prevent inking these surrounding areas.

I wanted the leaf stem to be brown in color. I used a smaller blending brush to apply the brown color. I masked the inked leaf which I skipped doing with the rest of the leaves. Using a smaller blending brush gives more control in adding a different color to this part of the leaf.

I used different shades of green inks for my leaves. I started blending with a light hand adding more pressure towards the part of the leaf connected to the stem. Another way to achieve this is to use different shades of green inks on a leaf.

I continued blending ink until I have enough leaves for each letter of 'nature.'

For the letters, I used an acrylic marker. I should have conditioned my marker before using it. And, I should have allowed the ink to dry before proceeding to the next letter. You will see below how I sort of messed up the letter e. This will be covered by the marks later on.

I blended a light and dark green acrylic marker on each letter. The acrylic marker is opaque that the pigment stood out over the blended ink on the leaf.

I used a black marker to outline the letters to make the letters pop-out.

I added marks to each leaf using a black gel pen.

For the rest of the letters, I used the same small blending brush to apply the ink. Just like with the leaf, I started inking the letter which is in the middle of the phrase moving sideways to complete the sentiment.

Initially, I was using a mask to prevent inking on the next letter but later on stopped doing this. Using a small brush makes it unnecessary to mask.

I used a pastel green gel pen to add shadows to the ink blended letters for additional details.

Art Journal Window~ Team Theme

Hello! Welcome back to BPM blog. For this month, the BPM DT is creating projects using stamps from a stamp bundle chosen by the lovely Kim, owner of BPM. I hope you go through each of the DT members this month and see everyone's work.

Today's project is another entry to my art journal. The BPM stamp bundle includes four stamps. I used two of the stamps in the bundle on this project. The stamps I used are:

I am stamping with watercolor markers. This technique involves applying the pigment from the watercolor markers directly to the stamp. There is an option to spritz water to the inked stamp to soften the colors but I did not do this on this project.

I stamped the inked fern to the journal page. The great thing about using watercolor markers is that I did not have to clean the inks off in between stamping. After stamping the fern, I applied the next color creating some blending of inks.

I also did second generation stamping in which I used the residual ink to stamp the fern. This technique creates a softer impression of the fern.

I used a stamp positioner to stamp the sentiment. The stamp positioner helps with precise stamping of an image unless...

I stamp it upside down. If this was a card, I think the orientation of the sentiment won't matter.

To save this project, I cut a slit on the center of the page.

I tear off the area surrounded by the fern frame to create a window.

I used the stamp positioner to plan the placement of the sentiment on the next page making sure the sentiment is showing through the window.

My first attempt on stamping the sentiment was not a good impression so I re-stamped the sentiment using the stamp positioner to guide me where to stamp again.

Guess what? I must have shifted my hand with the re-stamping so I ended up with a double image impression.

To save this project some more, I cut a bigger window on this page so it will be hidden behind the first window page. I did not want to tear the page off the journal. I don't want the pages falling off as I progress through my art journal.

This time, I was able to successfully re-stamp the sentiment. Still not as crisp as I want to but I will keep it as is.

I placed a scrap paper behind the first window page so I can line the torn window with a gold marker.

I flicked gold mica paint on the window panel for some splatters.

I stamped the fern around the sentiment using second generation stamping of a gold dye ink for a soft look.

I stamped dots on this page using a stamp from the Blank Page Muse Petals & Flowers Rubber stamp sheet.

I glued the second window page to the front window page. In hindsight, I could have torn the second page to create a window, and tear a bigger window on the first page for a layered window look.

I adhered the window pages to the sentiment page.

I hope you like today's project. Being resilient to the mistakes I made on this project made this a true art journal for me. When creating, sky is the limit, as the sentiment says.

A Winged Just Us Girls Stamp ~ WINGS Art Journal Page

Hello! Welcome back to the BPM blog. Today's post is my second entry to my art journal. If you are curious on my first entry, please check the post, Repurposing An Old Planner-Sunflower Beatiful Botanicals.

I used the following products from Blank Page Muse:

I positioned the girl stamp set on my repurposed planner. I applied adhesive to the back of the rubber stamp using a washable adhesive glue stick. I picked the stamp with a stamp positioner. The one I used is by Fiskars. I inked the stamp and positoned the stamp positioner with the stamp over the page. I pressed the stamp positioner to the page to transfer the image to the page planner.

I restamped the image on a sticky note and fussy cut it to create a mask. If I am going to redo this step, I will use a masking paper instead of a sticky note. The masking paper is thinner than the sticky note. With the thin masking paper, the intricate wing image where it meets the girl image will all be transferred to the page planner.

To stamp the wings, I used a different stamp positioner, the Stamp-a-ma-jig, as seen in the previous photo. I stamped the wings on a transparent sheet first to give me an idea where I want the wings to be stamped. After which, I adhered the wings rubber stamp to an acrylic block using a washable glue stick. Without removing the stamp positioner, I removed the transparent film, butted the acrylic block to the stamp positioner, and stamped the image to the page planner.

I used au unused white board eraser to apply extra and equal pressure to the inked rubber stamp. This just ensures the inked image will transfer to the page planner. The white board eraser is the same as the stamp press that you can buy in the market. Just less fancy.

I inverted the wings by mistake when I stamped it, but I like it this way. It reminded me of the models in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows.

I colored the image with Copic markers. If you notice the red plastic, this is a used plastic binder divider which I placed on the back of the sheet I am coloring. This prevents transferring ink from the page I am coloring to the next page since I am not sure how much ink the page sheet can hold.

True enough, the paper does not hold a lot of ink. You will notice some ink bleeding on the girl image's left arm. I used the Copic 0 to push the dark brown ink back to the girl's brown shirt. Next time, I will let the ink dry before coloring with another color group.

I colored the wings with a clear shimmer pen. It is hard to appreciate this in the above photo but you can see the shimmer in the last photo. I added accents to the wings using gel pens.

After I wrote my quote using an acrylic marker, I shaded the blank areas with a brown dye ink. I was also trying to cover up the ink boo-boo I made near the right leg of the girl.
