Metallic Painted Dragonfly Panel ~ WINGS

Hello! Welcome back to the BPM blog. Today's project is about using metallic watercolors with stencils. I hope you like it.

I used the following items on this project:
  • Blank Page Muse Sunflower & Dragonflies stencil
  • Black watercolor paper trimmed at 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • Metallic watercolors
  • Paint brushes, size 2/0 and size 2

I temporarily adhered the stencil to the black watercolor paper panel.

I applied the metallic watercolor paint to the black watercolor paper using the stencil openings as guide to where to apply the paint.

I played with the colors doing some ink blending on the wings. I used the larger brush to paint the dragonfly's wings and the smaller brush for the dragonfly's body.

If I feel that the metallic paint is not enough, I added more pigment by directly painting over the area.

Since I will be painting more dragonflies, I dried the painted dragonfly with a heat tool.

I positioned my stencil where I want the next dragonfly to be painted on.

The great thing about using paint with stencils is that I did not have to clean the stencil in between painting since I almost am not touching the stencil with my brush except for the intricate areas of the dragonfly's body.

Another great thing about using stencils is that you can flip the stencil and you will end up with a totally different design. The dragonfly's body is curved the opposite way when is is flipped.

I repeated the process all over again until I filled the whole canvas with dragonflies.

I added dots of watercolor paint to fill in the open areas between the dragonflies.

I have no plans on what to do with this panel at the moment but this is ready to be added to a notecard. I can add a sentiment to make it personalized if I want to. I can also use it to embellish a layout. Or I can just frame it for display.

I hope you give this stencil technique a try.

Layered Leaf Background

Hello friends. I am here today posting for Blank Page Muse.  I loved the variety of leaves in the Leaves Rubber Stamp Set Sheet by Terri Sproul. My design centers around multiple leaves stamped in different Distress Ink colors.

I wanted an unusual color combination, so I selected Olive Green, Seedless Preserves and Fossilized Amber.

I began by stamping the center leaf on a cream colored A2 sized cardbase. I recommend always starting in the middle and working your way out so you don't end up with an open space. After inking up the stamps, I spritzed to allow movement. I overlapped the stamps for interest.

I love encouraging stamps and this one was perfect for this card! I clear heat embossed the sentiment using Seedless Preserves ink on Kraft Cardstock. After trimming it down, I cut a piece of cream cardstock 1/2 inch wider than the strip by 4.25 inches. I inked the edges in Seedless Preserves and mounted the sentiment strip on top.

I trimmed the stamped piece to 3.75 x 5 inches. I cut another piece of cream cardstock to 4 x 5.25 inches and inked the edges with Seedless Preserves. This provides a great base for the stamped piece. The last step was to assemble the 3 base layers and add the sentiment strip.

Just a Note

Hello there all our fellow BPM fans! Jess here today sharing with you a note card using some of those fabulous red rubber stamps!! This month, I'm going for a more masculine appeal. I just love this stamp set by Kate Leitch too! Come along, let's craft some fun pieces for the guys in our lives!

Products used:
Blank Page Muse: Seth Apter Rocky Road embossing powder
Spectrum Noir: Watercolor paper
Ranger Ink: Archival Black ink
American Crafts: Sticky Thumb - foam dots
(Shop now and save! Use code BPMDtJessica2019 to save %15 off your total order!)

Here is a fun photo of the stamp sheet I used!

You cannot tell me that this script stamp is not GORGEOUS! I just had to show it off a bit!
1. Cut your desired note card size
2. Begin by distressing the edges of your paper with a pair of scissors or other tool of your choice
3. Get out your stamp, embossing pad, and powder

4. Emboss your script stamp directly in the middle of the card
5. Heat emboss your stamped script using your heating tool
6. Stamp and cut out your images using black ink
I like leaving a very thing white line surrounding the images to make them POP.

6. Now get out your distressing tool of choice and some ink. We are getting inky!
7. Start blending from the edges inward
The idea here is to have the inner part of the note card the lightest, making the stamped images the focal point.
8. Finally, use some foam dots or cardboard pieces to mount your stamped images.

Here we are! We have our finished notecard!
Here are some close-ups for you to enjoy
