I used the BPM Leaves Collage Stencil on this panel.
I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" cream cardstock. I positioned the stencil over the cardstock. I used a sticky mat to keep the cardstock and stencil in place for ink blending. If you don't have a stick mat, use tape to secure the stencil to the paper.
I selected fall colors for my panel. I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks in Fired Brick, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed and Walnut Stain. I used a blending brush to apply the inks to the cardstock panel over the stencil. I pounced the brush on a scrap paper before applying the ink to remove the excess ink and avoid harsh lines.
I went back and forth between the colors making sure I overlap the colors.
Removing the stencil is always like Christmas morning.
I flicked white opaque ink to the panel.
I heat set the panel to dry the inks before stitching.
I used a poking tool to add holes to the edges of the leaves. I poke on the corner of the image first.
I try to make the distances equal but sometimes I have to adjust the hole depending on where on the image the hole will land. I try to avoid being close to the edge of the paper to avoid ripping it during stitching.
I used all 6 threads of the embroidery floss. I did two kinds of stitching to the leaves. I did a running stitch to majority of the leaves. I did a chain stitch to three of the leaves.
I poked the holes for the vein of the leaf after I stitched a leaf instead of doing it earlier when I poked holes on the outline of the leaves. In this way, I will know where to do my stitching.
I flicked gold mica paint on the the panel after I was done with all the stitching. The opaque white paint somehow became unnoticeable. I was afraid to do this at first because this is how I messed up the two projects before this one. Sometimes, I just have to learn when to stop. I am just so glad this last detail worked out with the design. I just did not like the empty space in between the leaves.
I did not add a sentiment to this panel which I have been doing a lot lately. This allows me freedom to customize this panel later on when I am ready to give it.
