Steampunk Tray

Hello! Peggy here to show you how I made my shadow box out of a serving tray. This month we partnered with Walnut Hollow Prooducts to showcase Siin City Stamps.

I started by painting my box brown with a large brush in the same direction of the grain.

Second coat was watered down black acrylic paint appied with a cloth

This is my result. Next distress paints in gold and silver lightly appied to the edges and outside. Now for some sandpaper to further distress the edges.

I hand cut a butterfly by folding a piece of cardstock in half and cutting half of a wing leaving the center in tact. When opened I had a matching wing butterfly.

Next I cut small pieces of metal tape and applied it solely vertically and horizontally. Then I glued chipboard gears and lettering and covered with metal tape. I used the bottom of a paint brush to bernish all indentations. I also ran some black acrylic paint over the lettering and rubbed off creating shadows in the crevasses.

Below I stamped background journaling stamps from the Terri Sproul collection as well as some steampunk images. I also distressed the edges with distress stain.

I found the perfect spot to stamp the thee headed lady by Sin City Stamps. I also needed a steampunk airshiship and balloon which I stamped on black cardstock with Versa Mark ink and gold embossed using my heat gun.

One more stamp embellishment a steampunk pocket watch stamped with stazon ink on metal.

Put it all together with chains hanging from the ballon and on the handles. A few more metal gears on the outside and thats it!

Steampunk'd Christmas

Hello it's Gracie! Days are going by so fast and Christmas is right around the corner, so there's only a few more days left to make beautiful Christmas projects. Today I have a tag to share with you. To make it I used a very nice stamp set from Sin City Stamps called Steampunk'd Christmas. I honestly love how this tag turned out.

To make my tag I followed these steps:

1. Stamp and heat emboss in gold the largest gear stamp on a beige cardstock tag. I stamped it twice.
2. Stamp and heat emboss in gold a post stamp on the tag too.
3. Apply Crafter's Ink in Aquamarine and Distress Ink in Vintage Photo to the tag using a sponge applicator.
4. Die cut three poinsettias in white and sponge with ink to match the tag's background.
5. Embellish the poinsettias with aquamarine pearl stickers.

6. Stamp the Christmas word sentiment to a piece of beige cardstock and cut a banner.
7. Apply inks to the banner to match the rest of the design.
8. Double mount the sentiment banner to the bottom of the tag using foam adhesive.
9. As a final touch, add jute twine around the poinsettia bouquet and a piece of gold ribbon to the tag eyelet. I roughly sponged aquamarine ink the the gold ribbon to give it a vintage look.

The Steampunk'd Christmas stamp set is so versatile! It gives you so many options to create both backgrounds and focal elements on any paper crafting or mixed media project.

TERRI SPROUL INSPIRED TECHNIQUE

I am sharing a Christmas Card I made for SinCity Stamps today.  I used a technique I learned from Terri Sproul's Tuesday night show.  She does a live "Art Journal" show every week and she shows us many techniques!  Click her link above to find out more.

She showed us the technique I used for this card several times but I never tried it until now.  It is awesome and I know it will be in my "favorite techniques" file for sure!

Supplies:

• SinCity Stamps "Steampunk'd Christmas" Stamp Set
• SinCity Stamps "Fish Stencil"
• DecoArt Media Paint "Cadmium Red"
• Stewart Superior India Ink

This technique is like reverse stenciling.

I took out my stencil, paint and baby wipes.  I loved the flourish of the fish's tail so I taped off the rest of the fish.  I painted my whole piece of paper and let it dry.  I put my stencil on top and used the baby wipes to wipe off the paint that was inside the stencil.

How cool is that???  I can't believe I didn't try it sooner!  The flourishes look like flowers, I think.  

I stamped the Merry Christmas directly on the reverse stenciled, dry, paper.  I love how crisp these stamps are!!

I also stamped the postal stamp on some patterned paper to add to the top right corner.

I matted the reverse stenciled and stamped paper and added a bow with a button.

A Christmas Clock with Walnut Hollow

Hello, and welcome to my first Sin City Stamps post for December.  This month, we are proud to have Walnut Hollow as our sponsor.

I began my project with their rustic wood ledge.  It is quite rough, but instead of sanding it, I covered it with a good, thick coat of white gesso.  I wanted to maintain the texture without getting splinters.

Next, I covered the front and sides of the box with the green gold texture paint.  This paint is very thick and needed to be applied with a palette knife.  After spreading a medium thick coat, I dabbed the paint with the side of my knife to obtain this cool texture.

Mist entire box with Turquoise Shimmer Mist, then Primary Yellow, dabbing some of the excess mist as you go.  Let dry.

Apply Patina Gilder's Paste to high spots with your best tool, your finger.

Mist entire box again with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls mist.  Let dry.  Can you see the pretty gold flecks?

Apply German Silver Gilder's Paste to the high spots, leaving some of the Patina showing.  Now I am really loving it.

Drill  a hole in the center of the wooden snowflake large enough for the clock hand shaft to go through easily.  I also stamped snowflakes from Penguins on Ice set with Versamark ink and silver embossing powder.

Paint the wooden snowflake with the orange yellow metal color paint.  Let dry.  Use a baby wipe or damp paper towel and gently remove the orange yellow paint from on top of the embossed snowflakes to reveal the silver embossing.

Adhere two Clock Die Cuts together for extra thickness.

Heat emboss the clock die with Versamark ink and silver embossing powder.  Two coats of embossing powder were needed to get a smooth, metal look.

Adhere clock face to front of wooden snowflake.  

Paint the metal pendulum with the orange yellow metal color paint.  Let dry.  The photo shows just the hanger painted to show you the difference.

Measure and paint two ¼" wooden dowels with the orange yellow metal paint and adhere to lower half of box along the sides.

Put clock parts together and adhere wooden snowflake clock onto box at the top, just above the two dowels.  Adhere glittered snowflake to pendulum, and three rusty metal snowflakes to inside box.

Adhere reindeer ornament and holly sprig to bottom of box.

Select four matching scroll die cut pieces from the Clock Die Cuts, cover with Versamark ink, and heat emboss with a rust embossing powder.  The photo shows the one on the left "rusted".

Adhere to the sides of the box in the center.

Another look from the front and side!  I really love how this turned out.

Countdown To Christmas

Countdown to Christmas

I can't believe it's December already. 

There is no snow here so it's hard to get into the Christmas spirit.

I decided to make a Christmas canvas to get me in the spirit.

This canvas is kind of a prelude to my project in two weeks.

glitter, acrylic paint, Aileen's snow

I covered a canvas with tissue paper..

I would have loved to had music notes but this is what I had.

I stamped on some music notes.

I also stamped some in red later.

I tore the paper I wanted to use.. 

I did two different sizes just to see what works best.

I got the tree glued down and added the roman numerals

(made by Terri Sproul)

I then added acrylic paint around the edges

and glitter just inside that..

added the words.. Countdown To Christmas.

I added doodles around the tree.

I added the star (cut from Cricut cart)

I decided I couldn't see the numbers very good..

I stamped the numbers again and cut out

and added to my canvas.
