A Wish Come True - Scrapbooking Layout

Good Morning! I can hardly believe that it is February already. I hope that January treated you well and that you are here and ready to explore some fun techniques and color combinations. I have been laid up for a month because of Covid and have been watching all kinds of technique videos and, well, we are not going to talk about the online shopping! 

Also, through today's layout, I am going to introduce you to the newest member of my family. I adopted her the week before Christmas and it has been more of a blessing than I ever could of imagined. 

So, without further ado... let's get inky and meet Liberty! 

Start with a piece of white cardstock and cut it into strips. One thing I learned about was the ink VersaFine Clair, so I got a few colors. Also, using sponges to apply the ink. They literally look like a mini version of the makeup sponges used to contour, (something I have yet to perfect!). You can see how it applies and creates an almost suede looking texture. Using the sponge was a little messy. It was also great for inking the edges. All throughout the layout, you can grab your sponge and add a little ink to your edges... without having to get out the ink pad again.

 Now for some stamping! Using the Fancy Filigree Vines, stamp randomly on your strips. Earlier I mentioned color combinations.... can you tell from the layout that I had a little fun with color. Choosing red ink to stamp my Filigrees allowed the strips to look rich and warm verses if I had used a black ink pad, that would of created a sharp and colder look. 

                             

Look at the beautiful detail of the Fancy Filigree Vines. These are absolutely one of my most favorite set of stamps I own! 

Using the Heart Stencil from Mr. G and You stamp & stencil set and Texture Paste, add a little dimension to your background.

Once dried, ink up the the background using the sponge and VersaFine Clair Inks. There is one section that I did attempt to use my new Brushos on... but I am still learning, and we will save that for another day. The important thing to remember is to always have fun and if a technique doesn't go quite right, there are so many ways to cover it up! 

Using the Single Dandelion Blowing in the Wind Stamp and the Heart from the Day of the Dead Sugar Skull Set, create the grouping with your title and journaling. 

For the flower accent, use di-cut flowers and then to add a little pizazz, ink them up and use the Handwritten Note Art Stamp, (another one of my all time favorites!)

Using various scraps from your stash, put your layout together. You can use pop dots to add dimension and brads for a little flair. Most importantly, HAVE FUN, and enjoy being able to document your memories and getting lost in your creating.

Who's to say where the wind will take you

Mo here today on the Sin City Inspiration team blog,  sharing my art journal page "who's to say where the wind will take you".

 I love that sentiment and it made me think of traveling in a hot air balloon, in a perfect blue sky of course......

Supplies used:

Sin City Stamps sheets:

Stamp sheet Steampunk Circus

Stamp sheet Dandelion Wishes

Stamp sheet Art Journaling 2

Water based ink sprays in purple and blue

Gesso

White thread

Modeling paste

Circle stencil

Crackle Paste

Water proof stamp ink in black

Waterproof marker in black

Acrylic paint in brown and black

Water Spray bottle

Inktense pencils

Metallic paint in gold

 Step 1: Add a layer of gesso over the page, cut some threads  and place them around the edges in a swirly way. Use another layer of gesso over the threads and then let dry until the threads are adhered to the page.

Step 2: Use the waterproof stamp ink and the Faded page word stamp to start creating a background.

 Step 3: Dilute the gesso with water and go over the page so the impression of the stamp will be in the background.

 Step 4: Apply modeling paste through a stencil around the edges, Let dry

Step 5: Apply crackle paste on all edges around the spread partially covering the circles that where made in step 4.
Let this dry.

Step 6 : Spray some blue ink in the middle of the page, then spray some water and move the journal around to let the ink run over the page. Let dry when you are happy with how it looks.

 Step 7: Spray purple ink around the edges.
 Be careful to not let it run into the middle of the page but allow it to run around all textures ( the thread, modeling and crackle paste).
The ink will move easier if you spritz it with water.

 Step 8: Experiment a bit with the mister and the water to get the result you like.
If you have too much ink use a baby wipe to dab it off.  Spraying with the water bottle will give it a nice water drop effect .
When you are happy with your background, set it aside to dry.

 Step 9: Use a waterproof ink to stamp the Balloon and the sentiment.

Step 10: Use pencils to color the balloon.
Using a pencil, sketch some seagulls above the sentiment next to the balloon , then use a waterproof marker to give them detail.

Step 10: For the border, make a wash using brown and black acrylic paint mixed with water.
Paint this over the crackle.

 Step 11: Finish the page by adding a little gold metallic paint to the edges.

Blue Bird of Happiness Card

Hi Chris here and today I would like to share with you my pretty little blue bird card. Ain't he just sweet!  To recreate this card you will need:

Sin City Stamps Supplies:

Brick Wall Stencil 

Around the House Die Cuts

Blue Sheer Ribbon

Other Supplies: Pacon Mixed Media paper, Modeling Paste(Liquidtex), Tim Holtz Distress Inks(Pumice Stone, Tea Dye, Walnut Stain, Ground Espresso, Prima patterned paper, Tim Holtz Embossing Diffuser Plates, foam tape, flower.

After cutting a piece of mixed media paper the size of your card. I applied modeling paste over my stencil.  I purposely left the surface a little rough for extra texture

I then lightly ink my bricks with Pumice Stone Distress ink,  I then continued layering Distress Ink in Tea Dye, Walnut Stain and Ground Espresso, to get the brick to the color I wanted. Once I was satisfied I attached my brick background to my card base.  

I then cut my patterned paper to the size of my card.  I used my  Tim Holtz Embossing Diffuser Plates as a template to cut the center oval from my card front.

After cutting out the oval window I attached the card front to the card using foam tape, and added the bird cage and my blue bird. 

 I added a small flower and a ribbon bow to finish off my card.  You can see what a difference those little touches make to the finished card.
