Beware the Haunted House!

Hello, stamping friends!  It's DT member Walter with you on the blog today with a very spooky card that is certain to get you counting down to October.  I've always enjoyed a good ghost story - and love it even more if it's rumored to be true!  This haunted house stamp could certainly inspire some good stories.  I used Distress Oxide inks to create the scene and spooky atmosphere.

Here's what I used to create it:

  • Haunted House Halloween Rubber Stamp
  • BEWARE Word Art Stamp
  • Small skull stamp from Wildflower Yikes! Rubber Art Stamp Set
  • Black A2 card base
  • Grey A2 card panel
  • White card stock strips cut to: 2 at .5"x5.5" and 2 at .5"x4.25"
  • Cut Grass panels from Brutus Monroe
  • Brutus Monroe Clear Embossing Ink
  • Brutus Monroe Raven Embossing Powder
  • Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks: Shaded Lilac, Wilted Violet, Faded Jeans, Scorched Timber, Rustic Wilderness, Hickory Smoke, Lost Shadow
  • Light yellow alcohol marker
  • White, Brown, Yellow, and Silver gel pens
Here's how I made it:
  • Used the deckle edge blade and regular blade on my paper trimmer to cut the strips of white card stock that will be used to make a frame.
  • Colored the strips with Shaded Lilac Oxide ink and then used the brush to pounce them with Wilted Violet.  Once dry, I pounced them with a black ink pad.
  • Stamped the haunted house onto the grey card panel with clear embossing ink and then heat embossed with the Raven embossing powder.
  • Covered the outside edges of the house with Post-It tape to protect it while ink blending the background; ink blended the sky with Faded Jeans Oxide ink and then pounced it with Wilted Violet Oxide ink.

  • Removed Post-It tape and colored the house with gel pens.
  • Lightly brushed over the card panel with Lost Shadow Oxide ink to create a mist-like effect.
  • Added Rustic Wilderness and Scorched Timber to grass panels and glued down to the card panel once the ink was dry.
  • Cut a circle, colored it yellow, and shaded it with Lost Shadow Distress Oxide ink; once dry, stamped the skull onto the moon using Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink.
  • Stamped the word BEWARE into the sky by the top of the house with Lost Shadow Distress Oxide ink; used a white gel pen to create smoke coming from top of the house (chimney) and to fill in the bottom half of the word BEWARE to make it look like the smoke is spelling the word.
  • Adhered double sided foam tape strips to the back of frame pieces and adhered them into place.
  • Adhered card panel to card base with double sided tape.

It's really such an easy card to make and it has such a creepy atmospheric feel to it.  This is such a fun card to send to haunted house enthusiast for Halloween (or any time of the year!)

Now is a good time to start getting orders in for Halloween stamps.  Be sure to add these to your cart!
