Mixed Media Sin City Stamps Design Team How the time Flys

Mixed Media Project
How The Time Fly's

Here is my next Sin City Stamps Design Team project

I used a canvas 6x6x2 from Michaels

Created different layers
Spraying with Shimmerz different colors onto the wet gesso

Then adhered a sheet of Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Tissue Wrap, Melange
Colored it with Gelatos by Faber Castell

Hint:  I don't wait until the Shimmerz are dry - I put the Tissue Wrap on with Gel Medium and the color will seep thru the Tissue Wrap giving you a very cool effect.

For Step by Step you can see the Video Tutorial below.

I also included a list of supplies below with links to where I purchased them.

The Die Cut is from Sin City Stamps it's from the Clock Die Cuts

Is it a Tag or a Card?

Hello everyone!  Barbara here with a mixed media tag-shaped card using Sin City Stamps and more of the products from our sponsor, Frog Dog Studio.  I have to tell you that I have really enjoyed playing with the products in the FDS kit and pairing them with SCS stamps.
Supplies used:

Frog Dog Studio:  Mixed Media kit containing Faber-Castell mini mixed media journal
Pan Pastels Magenta, Permanent Green, Sofft Art Sponge, Collage sheet of Valentine images, Domino love charms, Prima wood buttons, Faber-Castell Gelatos

Metallic Rub-Ons Kit #2 (Altered Pages)

Used dryer sheet

Xyron

Glimmer Mist (Caramel Apple)

Black India Ink (Stewart Superior), Silver pigment ink, Clear embossing ink

Silver, Black, Clear, Rust embossing powders

Evergreen Bough, Brown distress ink (Tim Holtz)

Sizzix and Spellbinders dies

Metal charms and clock hands

Red and green Wink of Stella pens (Altered Pages)

Directions:

I decided to make a large tag from the Prima button package that was in the FDS kit.

Run dryer sheet through Xyron.  Spritz with water, add White Gelato with a tiny amount of Black Gelato and spread over the dryer sheet with your finger.  You can use a brush if you prefer.  Use sofft sponge to flake off some of the green and pink pan pastels over the still wet sheet, and spread with your finger (or brush).

Remove dryer sheet from Xyron release paper and heat set with heat gun.  Run white cardstock through Xyron, adhere dryer sheet over top.

Next, spray dryer sheet/cardstock with Caramel Apple glimmer mist and allow to dry.
Run tag from button package through Xyron, adhere to back of dry sheet, trim off excess. Don't you just love the feathered edge on this.  I thought about keeping it, but I only had it on this one side and so I trimmed it all even.  Maybe next time I will work it into another project.

Run tag through Xyron again and adhere to back of print paper, trim off excess.

Reverse side
Next, emboss the edges of the tag with a rust embossing powder.  I love this effect.

Here is a close up of the edges.
Die cut pocket watch with circle die inserted in center.  Cut out another pocket watch from print paper. You only need enough to cover the back portion that will be exposed when attached to the tag.
Heat emboss pocket watch with silver pigment ink and silver embossing powder.  Reheat powder and sprinkle black embossing powder over all for an antique silver look.  Rub a bit of deep gold metallic cream over pocket watch.

Stamp couple on clock face with black India ink onto print paper.  Color woman's dress and handkerchief with green and red Wink of Stella pens.  Cut out, adhere to chipboard circle.

Attach print paper die cut to back of pocket watch.  You can see where some of my chipboard is not covered, but it won't show when attached to the tag.

Punch hole through center of stamped chipboard circle, attach clock hands with small brad.  Adhere to center of pocket watch.

Rub deep gold metallic cream onto the filigree charm to change the color, then highlight the design on the keyhole charm.  Attach Love domino charm to the bottom of the filigree piece.

I love shopping the hardware store, and here is one of my favorite finds, wallboard tape.  It is usually white (sometimes yellow) and has a slightly sticky back.  One technique I like is to place the tape onto a piece of or aluminum foil, ink liberally with embossing ink, and heat emboss pretty embossing powders onto it.  Here, I have used a green glittery embossing powder. Luckily, I was able to get a picture that represents some of the sparkle.  When you remove the tape from the aluminum foil, you not only have this beautiful piece, but also a beautiful embossed piece of foil. Two cool embellishments for the price of one.
Today, I am using only the embossed wallboard tape.  I thought it would make a nice addition along the edge of my tag.

Next, I added gesso to the edges with a stencil I had laying around.  Did you know that Sin City also carries stencils?  They are awesome, and most of them actually match the stamps.  So very cool!

After the gesso dries, mist with Caramel Apple glimmer mist, and add brown distress ink over that.
Next, I wanted a subtle effect so I heat embossed the large swirl with a rust embossing powder.  It is subtle but effective.

Die cut a feather from chipboard, add a thick coat of gesso with your finger to achieve some texture.

Next, add evergreen distress ink over the gesso, distressing the edges with brown.  Adhere both the watch and feather to the bottom portion of the tag.  Attach the filigree/domino charm to the bottom, and the keyhole to the center top,

Stamp steampunk gears bird onto print paper with clear ink and clear embossing powder.  Cover paper with brown distress ink. Trim bird, and crease it to give it some shape, as shown.  Attach to tag, as shown.

Stamp Happy Birthday onto scrap print paper and die cut.  Add to back of tag to turn your creation into a wonderful card for someone special.

I hope you enjoyed my mixed media project and that you will be inspired to give some of these fun techniques a try.

Did you know that Sin City Stamps has some new page layouts for all the scrapbookers out there, too?  Here is a small sample of what is coming.  These are available in the store NOW!  Aren't they gorgeous?  So hop on over and see all the new, fabulous products in store now.

Themed stamps....they aren't just one use products

Hi everyone!  I'm Peg and I am a guest designer for Sin City Stamps.  Today I'm here to show you how you can use themed stamps for other things than just the holiday/intended them they are designed for.  I used my Christmas themed Santa stamp with a little twist so join me as I show you how you can use this stamp for a fun birthday card.

Supply list:  Peg Rounds Christmas Stamps, Blue Ink Pad, Stamping Block, Tape (either scotch tape or painters tape) Ribbon, Shaped dies and die cut machine, computer with a document program for sentiment and printer, card stock for card base and for printing sentiment, glue and tape runner to attach bow and card base

Begin by using a computer to add the text to a piece of card stock that is for printer use and printing it out.

Next, place the stamp on a stamping block and use the tape to cover all areas of the stamp that you do not want included in your stamped image.  Here I taped Santa's hat as I did not want him to look like Santa.  I wanted him to look like an old man instead.

Ink the stamp with the stamp pad.  It's ok if ink gets onto the tape.

Remove the tape and clean off any edges that may have gotten ink on them where you don't want it.

Stamp the image onto the printed card stock sheet.

Die cut the image using a die that will fit around it and then die cut the card base from a larger size.  Assemble the card and glue the bow onto the top of it.

You now have a fun birthday card and a new way to use some of your favorite holiday stamps.  The next time you think you don't have a stamp for that stop and take a second look at the stamps you already have.  You may just find one to use all year long!

Thanks for stopping by today and joining me in the fun!  Be sure to head over to the Sin City Stamps website and take a look at all of the great products carried.  I know you will find a lot of favorite things to use.

Mixed Media Bottle of Hope

As a member of the polymer clay community, I participate in an activity called "The Bottle Of Hope".  The Bottles of Hope project was started in 1999 by a very special person, Diane Gregoire, who is a cancer survivor and polymer clay artist. Diane found a way to use her special talents as an artist to cheer up the lives of cancer patients going through the ordeal of chemotherapy.   Polymer clay is used to decoratively cover small glass medicine bottles that are then given to cancer patients as a symbol of hope.

At 4" tall, the bottles I am using are a little larger than the normal BOH (2"-3" medicine bottles).  The extra area should allow me to create some interesting pieces to donate.

As you can see I covered the bottom with a thin layer of polymer clay and textured it with a mesh bag (I spare no expense when designing!).  A thin multi-colored strip separates the areas and gives a subtle touch of color.
The hearts are created from a polymer clay cane called The Stroppel Cane".  Slices of random canes are layered on thin sheets of clay, cut & stacked, reduced, and then cut into slices to use.
No 2 canes EVER turn out the same and that is one of the things I love about it...so random, yet so striking!

Now back to the bottle.  Polymer clay needs to be baked (275 degrees in your home oven) to harden/cure the clay.  It can be baked multiple times during a project with no ill effects.  With that in mind, I baked the bottle (as shown above) before applying the top layer of clay.  This will allow me to handle the bottle without distorting any of the clay design.

"Love can hope where reason would despair", a rubber stamp from Sin City Stamps (www.sincitystamps.com) fit the bottle perfectly!  I tamped the rubber stamp with a Faber Castell black Gelatos (www.frogdogstudio.com) and stamped it on a strip of pearl Premo!Sculpey polymer clay.

I have to admit it took a few tries to get the pressure and color right, but the results were wonderful.  After cutting around the stamped image I carefully applied it to the bottle.

Additional strips of clay were wrapped (in layers) until the bottle was covered to the top.  A bit of bling is always good, so a few heat sets crystals added a finishing touch.

Now time for the topper.  I received 2 fabulous scroll pieces in the "New Year's Chipboard Book" (Sin City Stamps).  I tested them in the bottle and immediately thought of a Lalique Art Glass piece I saw on the Antiques Roadshow.   I used the Pan Pastel Artist Pastels (thanks again to Frog Dog studio) to color both sides of the chipboard...perfect!!

A stopper would be needed to hold the chipboard in place.  I cut a circle of polymer clay (a little larger than the opening) and placed it on top.  With a slit cut into the top I was able to slide both colored scrolls into place and bake.  After cooling a bit of glue may be necessary on the underside of the stopper.

I hope you have enjoyed this creation.  It was created with love for a friend whose mom has been diagnosed for a 3rd time :-(  It will come with wishes and prayers for a full recovery.

If you wish to participate in the Bottles of hope project follow this link for details  http://bottlesofhope.org/  I recycle many small bottles for this project.  I have also found small bottles in bulk at http://www.sciplus.com/ (search small bottles or medicine bottle or nail polish bottles :-)
