Moon And Stars

Moon and Stars

Good day, fellow crafters. It's Tamara once again, with a new post where I will

be showcasing my latest card created using I Brake for Stamps and Blank Page

Muse products!

Imagine gazing into the night sky, where countless stars shimmer like distant

jewels, and the moon casts a gentle glow over the landscape. The vibrant colors

of nebulae swirl together in an otherworldly dance, painting the cosmos with

hues of deep blues, fiery reds, and brilliant purples. This celestial canvas

inspires awe and wonder, reminding us of the infinite possibilities that lie

beyond our earthly realm.

To create this project, you will need the following:
• Yupo Paper or equivalent
•  Liquid alcohol inks - black required, other colors at your discretion
• Alcohol ink blower
•  Plastic tarp or splatter box (a MUST)
• Shimmer Spray
• Silver Glitter Gel
• Yellow textured paste
• Scissors
• Liquid glue
• Paper trimmer
•  A2 card base – white (4.25” x 5.5”)

To craft your card, start by creating the background panel. Since you will be

using alcohol inks, which will stain almost anything, take precautions to cover

your work surface with a plastic tarp or have a splatter box on hand.

  • Using a piece of Yupo paper, or equivalent, apply random drops of alcohol ink(s) to the paper surface
  • Using an air blower, move the inks around until satisfied with the look.
  •  If dissatisfied with the coverage, allow it to dry then add more alcohol inks and repeat the process. Drying time allows for a layered look
  •  If satisfied, mist lightly with a shimmer spray
  •  Allow everything to dry completely.

Once everything is dry, the background panel should look something like the image above. Do not worry about your work looking precisely like the example because no two alcohol ink projects will ever be identical which is part of the fun of using them.

The next step of the project is to add our focal image. For this card, you will use the Celestial Moon & Stars Mixed Media Stencil from Blank Page Muse, silver glitter paste, and yellow texture paste.

● Position the stencil where best fits based on your panel. For this version, I imagined that the left side of the panel was a distant nebula and wanted to keep that uncovered.

● Secure the stencil to your worksurface making sure that you Do NOT use a high tack tape over the background panel itself in order to prevent the paper from ripping when removing the stencil

● Once satisfied with the location of the stencil, mask off the moon. The yellow paste being used in a later step will cover any issues resulting from tape removal

  • Using a small pallet knife, spread the silver glitter gel over the stars. Be sure to clean off any excess from the stencil.
  • Carefully remove the masking from the moon and apply the yellow paste. I opted for finger painting for this step just to amuse myself, but a pallet knife or scrapper works well.

● Allow to dry completely and then relocate the stencil as desired to add more stars to the background panel.

● KEY TIP: be sure to clean all tools after using gels or pastes to prevent hardening or staining.

● Once satisfied with the location of your additional stars allow the background

panel to fully dry.

The last stage in the creation process is the assembly. Trim your panel down to

an A2 size, 4.25” x 5.5”, and with liquid glue adhere it to the white A2 card

base. With that, I called the card complete.

Eclipse Card Technique

Today's project showcases the Eclipse Technique. Eclipse technique is when you die cut a word or a shape on a background panel, then raise this die cut up slightly with foam or layered die cuts. I hope you like it.

The stamp I used is the I Brake For Stamps License Plate Vintage Style Alphabet Rubber Stamp. This is an unmounted red rubber stamp that comes in two strips of letters and icons. You have an option to cut the letters apart or keep it together. I did not cut my stamps apart.

I repeatedly stamped the letters on a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" watercolor paper with a black watercolor friendly pigment ink. I painted the letters with different colors of water-based markers. I heat set the water-colored panel to speed dry it.

Here comes the fun part. I die cut a sentiment on the panel making sure I kept every piece of the die cuts.

I adhered tape to the back of the opening created by the sentiment die. Using a double adhesive tape will be even better.

I die cut the word on brown cardstock three more times. I applied dots of glue to the back of one of the word die cuts, then pieced this on the opening of the water colored panel.

I adhered the drop out pieces to the opening of the letters. It already looks good at this point, right? You can actually stop here to make this into an inlay card.

Since I am making this card into an eclipse card, I adhered the other two pieces of sentiment die cuts over the piece that is pieced in the panel to build layers. I adhered the sentiment die cut from the water-colored panel on the top.

It is kind of difficult to see the raised sentiment on the first photo but this is what makes this card magical. The sentiment is hidden and you only figure out that there is a sentiment once you run your fingers over the panel and/or tilt the card.

I hope you like today's project.

It's Bearly Autumn!

Hi, friends!

It's design team member Walter back on the blog today.  My last post on Halloween got me thinking that I'm ready for some Fall weather.  It's my favorite time of year!  The crisp, cool air.  The smell of falling leaves.  Pumpkin everything!  With that in mind, I created this card to feel a little bit of Fall in the summer.

Here's what I used to make it:

  • Autumn Leaf Costume Bear Rick St Dennis Line Art Rubber Stamp
  • A2 Kraft Card Stock card base
  • 3.75"x5" Brushed Copper card panel
  • 3.25"x4.5" White card panel
  • Deckle edge oval die
  • Tim Holtz Tea Stain Distress Ink
  • Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink
  • Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink
  • Brutus Monroe Ice Grey Vintage Mist Spray
  • Brutus Monroe Brown Vintage Mist Spray
  • Brutus Monroe Mint Chroma Mist Spray
  • Brutus Monroe Apricot Chroma Mist Spray
  • Alcohol markers and Metallic Gel pens
Here's how I made it:
  • Rubbed the Kraft card base with Vintage Photo Distress ink pad along the front edges of the card; rub Tea Stain Distress ink pad along the side edges of the card base.

  • Used the deckle edge oval die to cut out the center of the Brushed Copper card panel.

  • Stamped bear image and colored it with alcohol markers and color leaves with metallic gel pens.

  • Use an ink blending brush to add a light covering of Antique Linen Distress ink.

  • Use a piece of scrap paper to cover the image of the bear.
  • Take the Brutus Monroe Mint and Apricot Chroma Mist sprays, remove sprayer, and gently tap the end with the plastic tube over the card panel to add splatters.  Repeat with the Brown Vintage Spray Mist.

  • Remove scrap paper and spray image with Ice Grey Vintage Mist.
  • Once dry, use craft glue to adhere the brushed copper panel over the stamped image panel.
  • Use craft glue to adhere the combined panel to the card base.
  • Cut a sentiment strip from scrap white card stock, run Antique Linen Distress ink pad over it.
  • Used a black marker to write sentiment, put craft glue on the back of it, and adhered it to card.
This is such a cute card with a vintage feel to it.  I can almost taste the pumpkin bread!

Beware the Haunted House!

Hello, stamping friends!  It's DT member Walter with you on the blog today with a very spooky card that is certain to get you counting down to October.  I've always enjoyed a good ghost story - and love it even more if it's rumored to be true!  This haunted house stamp could certainly inspire some good stories.  I used Distress Oxide inks to create the scene and spooky atmosphere.

Here's what I used to create it:

  • Haunted House Halloween Rubber Stamp
  • BEWARE Word Art Stamp
  • Small skull stamp from Wildflower Yikes! Rubber Art Stamp Set
  • Black A2 card base
  • Grey A2 card panel
  • White card stock strips cut to: 2 at .5"x5.5" and 2 at .5"x4.25"
  • Cut Grass panels from Brutus Monroe
  • Brutus Monroe Clear Embossing Ink
  • Brutus Monroe Raven Embossing Powder
  • Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks: Shaded Lilac, Wilted Violet, Faded Jeans, Scorched Timber, Rustic Wilderness, Hickory Smoke, Lost Shadow
  • Light yellow alcohol marker
  • White, Brown, Yellow, and Silver gel pens
Here's how I made it:
  • Used the deckle edge blade and regular blade on my paper trimmer to cut the strips of white card stock that will be used to make a frame.
  • Colored the strips with Shaded Lilac Oxide ink and then used the brush to pounce them with Wilted Violet.  Once dry, I pounced them with a black ink pad.
  • Stamped the haunted house onto the grey card panel with clear embossing ink and then heat embossed with the Raven embossing powder.
  • Covered the outside edges of the house with Post-It tape to protect it while ink blending the background; ink blended the sky with Faded Jeans Oxide ink and then pounced it with Wilted Violet Oxide ink.

  • Removed Post-It tape and colored the house with gel pens.
  • Lightly brushed over the card panel with Lost Shadow Oxide ink to create a mist-like effect.
  • Added Rustic Wilderness and Scorched Timber to grass panels and glued down to the card panel once the ink was dry.
  • Cut a circle, colored it yellow, and shaded it with Lost Shadow Distress Oxide ink; once dry, stamped the skull onto the moon using Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink.
  • Stamped the word BEWARE into the sky by the top of the house with Lost Shadow Distress Oxide ink; used a white gel pen to create smoke coming from top of the house (chimney) and to fill in the bottom half of the word BEWARE to make it look like the smoke is spelling the word.
  • Adhered double sided foam tape strips to the back of frame pieces and adhered them into place.
  • Adhered card panel to card base with double sided tape.

It's really such an easy card to make and it has such a creepy atmospheric feel to it.  This is such a fun card to send to haunted house enthusiast for Halloween (or any time of the year!)

Now is a good time to start getting orders in for Halloween stamps.  Be sure to add these to your cart!

A Hungry Halloween Card!

Hi, friends!

It's design team member Walter on the blog today.  The year is now more than half-way over and Halloween will be here before you know it.  A lot of people are already focusing on Christmas cards . . . but how about some spooky ones first?  I wanted to make a Halloween card that was a little different and not so mainstream.  Guess what?  Blank Page Muse and I Brake for Stamps had me covered!

The inspiration for this card is the musical Little Shop of Horrors.  It's a favorite of mine, and I thought of it as soon as I saw these Wildflower Yikes stamps.  They're so much fun and can create a unique Halloween card with something other than a ghost, witch, or pumpkin.  This is one hungry flower - so you better heed the caution warning!

Here's what I used to make it:

Here's how I made it:
  • Placed the black card panel into scoring tool and scored at each 1/16th of the panel from top to bottom

  • Ran the Lost Shadow Oxide ink pad up and down the scored card panel; lightly misted it with water and let it dry.

  • Used the deckle edge circle die to cut a circle from the scored panel.

  • Stamped the large flower with teeth and two smaller eye flowers onto the piece of white card stock.
  • Colored the images with a combination of alcohol markers and glitter gels pens.
  • Misted the colored image with the Brutus Monroe Ice Grey Vintage Mist Spray to add some light grunge to the image.
  • Placed double sided foam tape strips onto the back of the scored black panel, adhered the white image panel so that the image is visible through the circle, and adhered the combined panel to the A2 card base.

  • Cut a strip of cardboard large enough to accommodate the CAUTION stamp and used the Mustard Seed Oxide ink pad to color it yellow.
  • Once dry, stamp the word CAUTION onto the cardboard strip with black ink.
  • Put craft glue onto back of the cardboard strip and adhere to card.
  • Use the skull stamp and white oxide ink to stamp some skulls on the card.
  • Adhere hematite crystals to the eyes of the skulls.
That's it - so easy but creates such a spooky Halloween card!

Creating A Scene

Today's project shows how you can use several Blank Page Muse stamps to create a scene. I hope you like it.

After I planned how my scene will look like, I stamped the images on a scrap piece of paper to give me an idea on the placement of the images, and the order of stamping.

It also gave me an idea which images I need to create a mask for. Since this is a rough draft, the stamping of the images need not to be straight.

If you noticed, the stamping on the rough draft is different from the final project. I made a boo-boo on a step but it's alright. It still turned out well, what do you think?

Any image that will be on the front needs a mask. The fox had a mask but the mask fell off before I was able to take a photo.

Since most of the stamps I used are rubber stamps, I used a stamp positioner to know where to stamp the images. This is the limitation of rubber stamps compared to clear stamps. You cannot really see where you are stamping.

I used a watercolor friendly ink in stamping the images since I used this medium in coloring the images and the background. I heat set the panel before coloring to make sure that the ink is dry before water-coloring.

Once I was done coloring the images, I free painted the background. I started painting the sky since this used a very light color. It is easier to paint over a lighter color with a darker color than vice versa. It is harder to lighten up a dark color once you have painted it.

I hope you like today's project. Please visit my blog, Maria Giselle's Creative Cuts, for more details.
