Glow in the Dark Halloween Card with a Surprise Element

Hello! Welcome back to the Blank Page Muse Blog. I am doing Halloween themed projects for this month. This is already the second Halloween card I created. Please head on to my first post, Stamping on Stenciled Background, if you are want to see the other Halloween card I created.

I adhered the rubber stamp to a stamping tool using a washable glue stick. Since this is a large stamp, I applied a good amount of washable glue to make sure that it adheres really well.

I treated a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" black watercolor paper with an anti-static powder tool since I will be embossing the image.

I generously applied embossing ink on the stamp.

I used a pressure tool to transfer the inked image to the watercolor paper. Since the watercolor paper is textured, I put a lot of pressure over the stamping tool. I used my fingertips on some of the areas where the ink seemed not to transfer.

I poured glow in the dark embossing powder to the sticky ink.

I applied heat to the powdered panel using a heat gun. I started heating on the back of the watercolor panel before moving to the front. This sets the powder to the paper. It prevents blowing off the powder if heated directly on the front.

I temporarily adhered the embossed panel to a hard board to limit the warping since I will be watercoloring on this panel.

I used orange and green mica paints, and a purple stain ink.

I dropped the pigment on the embossed panel. The wells formed by the embossing powder keeps the colors contained.

I used a wet brush to help move the colors. I set this aside to dry. I do not recommend drying the watercolor with a heat gun since this might flatten the embossing powder.

While the panel is drying, I worked on the interactive feature of the card. I applied a dot of Ranger Glossy Accent on the body of a sequin spider. I placed a clear string over the glue.

To keep the string secure, I applied a small circle die cut over it. To keep the thread stretched out, I used magnets. I have a magnetic mat underneath that's why this worked. I added another dot of Glossy Accent over the circle die cut. I folded the bottom end of the string over the circle die cut, adhering it to the dot of Glossy Accent. I adhered another spider sequin on top, making sure the spider legs are aligned with each other. I set this aside to dry.

I cut a slit on the top portion of the watercolored paper panel.

I slid the string through the slit with the spider sequin on the embossed side of the watercolored panel. I secured the string on the back with a piece of tape. I cut of the excess.

I adhered additional spider sequins to the watercolor cardstock panel. It is easy to do this with the use of a pick-up tool. I used Glossy Accents for glue which I highly recommend. This glue might take a while to dry but it works really well with slick surfaces like the spider sequin.

I added dots of Glossy Accents on the spider sequins.

I poured glow in the dark glitter over the glue. I set this aside to dry.  The spider on the topmost left swings from side to side. Thanks to the clear floss and the slit that keeps it in place.

I added strips of patterned paper to frame the embossed background. I was going to add a sentiment but decided against it. Maybe at a later time when I am ready to give this away. I adhered this panel to an A2 note card.

Below is a photo of how the background and spiders glow in the dark.

Do you see the spiders?

I hope you like today's card. Please visit my blog to see this card in action.
