Adding Partial Dimension

 Hi everyone! Charlotte here, and today I am sharing a card that is almost one layer, with just an added touch of selective dimension. I've shared this technique on another card here on the blog before, which you can find here. This time I have a more summery take on it.

Other materials:
White card base
White card snippet
Black ink
Stamping tool or acrylic block
Alcohol markers
Foam tape (or an action wobbler)


Instructions:
Stamp the Tall Tropical Drink with Umbrella onto the card base and then restamp the umbrella part onto a snippet of white card. Stamp one of the Beach Phrases sentiments onto the card base beside the image.
Using alcohol markers color in the image on the card base. Also add grounding below the image.
Color the umbrella on the snippet of card using the same colors as were used on the umbrella on the card base. Fussy cut the umbrella out.
Place foam tape, or an action wobbler, onto the back of the umbrella and attach it into position on the card base.

I hope you enjoyed my blog post! This design could work really well without the added dimension, as just a one layer card. Adding the dimension to the umbrella just gives a little extra fun, which can really be amped up by using an action wobbler instead of foam tape. I had planned to use a wobbler for my card but I must be out as I could not find them in my stash. I hope you'll give this technique a try, and I'd love to see what you make!

No Line Water-coloring

 Hi everyone! Charlotte here, and today I am sharing a fun, summery card featuring no-line watercoloring.

Other materials:
White card base
Heat gun
No line coloring ink (Antique Linen works well)
Stamping tool or acrylic block
Watercolor paints
Watercolor cardstock
Paintbrushes
Coloring Pencils
Dark green ink
Nuvo Drops in Limoncello
Adhesive backed fun foam, or foam tape


Instructions:
First stamp the Tall Pineapple Line Art image onto some watercolor paper with an ink suitable for no line watercoloring. Then begin painting the leaves of the pineapple. Use a narrow paint brush and work a leaf at a time, leaving one leaf to dry before painting the ones next to it to avoid the color bleeding together. Start with a lighter green and build the color up in layers.
Next paint the body of the pineapple. Add a wash of color across the entire area, keeping it darker to the left hand side where the shadows are, as well as beneath the leaves. Once the wash of base color is dry, and detail in the same way as with the leaves, working a section at a time.

After completely painting the pineapple add splatters to the image using the same colors of paint as were used for the pineapple and leaves.
Use colored pencils to enhance the details on the image. Pay particular attention to adding depth to the shadow areas, and use a white pencil to intensify the highlights.
Trim down the panel to about a quarter of an inch smaller than the card base. Place the panel into the stamping tool and stamp the Hello Sunshine Sentiment with dark green ink. Alternatively use an acrylic block to stamp.
Use adhesive backed fun foam, or foam tape, to pop the panel up on the card base.
As a final touch add some Nuvo Drops in Limoncello around the pineapple, as well as some very tiny drops dotted amongst the splatters.

I hope you enjoyed my blog post! This card was a lot of fun to make, even though I struggled with the painting initially. Bookmark From Snippets



If you often find yourself with leftover snippets of card, why not turn them into fun bookmarks? That's what Charlotte did here, using the Background Roses stamp and some quick alcohol marker colouring. Round the corners, punch a hole and add some twine, and you have a bookmark ready to go!

Alcohol Ink Panels

 Hi everyone! Charlotte here, and today I am sharing a card using alcohol ink paneling. My aim was to make a clean and simple design with a slight steampunk feel.

White card base
Black card
Alcohol ink card
Alcohol inks in Coral and Sunset Orange
Alcohol blending solution
Air puffer
Gold foil
Paper trimmer
Vellum
Embossing ink
Black embossing powder
Stamp positioned or acrylic block
Heat gun
Liquid glue
Foam tape or squares, preferably black
Scissors


Instructions:

Begin by sprinkling Coral alcohol ink randomly onto the alcohol-ink cardstock. Add drops of Sunset Orange sparingly, and alcohol ink blending solution as required. Use an air puffer to move the ink around as desired. Continue working in layers until the preferred look is achieved.

Allow the ink panel to dry for a moment until there are no wet areas but still some tacky areas. Press a piece of gold foil onto the panel, and gently rub.

Carefully peel up the foil. If any areas appear tacky but have not taken the foil, press it back down and tub into those areas. Once the panel is ready, use a paper trimmer to trim three narrow rectangles from the panel. Keep the remains of the panel for a future project. Mat each of the rectangles onto some black card.

Using embossing ink stamp the ribbon laced corset onto a piece of vellum. Coat with black embossing powder and heat set. Fussy cut the stamped image out. Place very narrow pieces of foam tape behind the embossed areas of the corset.
Use liquid glue to adhere each of the matted alcohol ink panels to the card base, slightly staggering them to create flow across the card. Remove the backing from the foam tape on the corset and pop it up overlapping two panels.

Ink Swiped Birthday Card

Make a quick birthday card by adding simple ink swiped coloring.





Charlotte swiped three shades of purple ink across her card base before stamping with a bold flower  birthday sentiment in black ink.
She then finished the card by adding black Nuvo Drops.

Aged Focal Point

 Hi everyone! Charlotte here, and today I am sharing a fun beach themed card with an aged, vintage feel to it.

White card base
Watercolor card
Water spritzer
Repositionable adhesive tape
Heat gun
Brown ink
Stamping tool or acrylic block
Distress Oxides e.g. Stormy Sky, Tumbled Glass, Wild Honey, Squeezed Lemonade, Cracked Pistachio and Lucky Clover
Tea Dye Distress Ink
Scissors


Instructions:
Cut a panel of watercolor cardstock. Stamp the front most images, the hut and trees, with brown ink. Roughly mask the images and stamp the first line of mountains. Repeat masking and stamping until the scene is built. Remove all the masks.  

Loosely colour the image using the smooshing and distress inks and/or oxides.
Spritz the panel with water and crumple it up to give it an aged look. Flatten it back out and blend over with Tea Dye Distress ink.
Lightly and roughly add texture to some areas, primarily the edges, with Tea Dye ink and the small crackle stamp. Run the edge of the scissors' blade along the sides of the panel to distress it. Roll one or more corners and add some slight tears if desired. Add more tea Dye ink to the exposed areas.

Set the panel aside. Stamp the star fish repeatedly on the white card base using Tea Dye ink to create a rough pattern. Add the sentiment to the lower right corner of the card base with the same brown ink as used originally. Add liquid glue to the back of the aged panel and adhere to the card base. Avoid excessively flattening the image.

Embossing With Dies

 Hi everyone! Charlotte here, and today I am sharing a fun birthday card
 that uses dies to emboss in two ways.

White card base
Die cutting/embossing machine
Embossing mat
Nesting circle dies
Repositionable adhesive tape
Anti-static powder tool
Embossing ink
Metallic dark blue embossing powder
White embossing powder
Heat gun
Purple ink
Stamping tool or acrylic block
Black card strip
Alcohol markers
Nuvo Drops in Sweet Lilac


Instructions:
Lay a strip of repositionable adhesive tape face up on the work surface, and press the circle dies into place on it. Keep the gap between the dies as even as possible.
Once all the dies are in position, use an anti-static powder tool to deactivate the adhesive on the still exposed areas of tape.
Gently press embossing ink onto the cutting edges of the dies. Pressing too hard will cause the ink to get on the non-cutting areas of the dies. It is likely that some ink will get on other areas, meaning the embossed lines will subsequently be less clean than they might otherwise be. This can be seen as adding some whimsy to the design.

Treat a card base with anti-static powder tool and prepare to emboss through the die cutting machine. 

Ensure the sandwich is set up with the embossing mat according to the specific machines instructions. 

Carefully position the nested circles over the top and run through the machine. This will both dry emboss - creating the impression of the lines - and also prepare for heat embossing by pushing the embossing ink onto the card base.
Sprinkle dark blue metallic embossing powder over the embossed lines, tap off the excess, and use a dry paintbrush as needed to remove any stray bits of embossing powder.
Use a heat gun to heat set the embossing powder.
Use purple ink to stamp the Seahorse stamp, then color in with a lighter purple alcohol marker. 

Carefully fussy cut the image out. Then curl of the tail and spines of the back may be a bit fiddly. 

Using a craft knife on the smaller areas can help.
White heat emboss the Happy Birthday Phrase onto a strip of black card the same width as the card base.
 Adhere it into place on the card base across the embossed circles.
Adhere the seahorse overlapping the sentiment strip.
Finally embellish the card with the addition of a few Nuvo Drops in Sweet Lilac.
