Give Thanks

Hi, friends! It's design team member Walter on the blog today with a beautiful card celebrating Thanksgiving.  The Harvest Moon stamp from I Brake for Stamps creates such a beautiful scene.  I used lots of earth tones set against the night sky and a golden full moon in my design.  I can smell the fall leaves and feel the cool, crisp air when I look at this image!

Here's what I used to create it:

• Harvest Moon Red Rubber Stamp
• A2 Kraft card base
• Vintage Newspaper Clipping Paper
• 4"x5.25" piece of Cream cardstock
• Embossing ink
• Gold embossing powder
• Colored pencils
• Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, Scorched Timber
• Piece of twine
• Two mini clothes pins
• Label Maker
  

Here's how I made it:

• Added grunge to Kraft card use using Scorched Timber ink and ran the ink pad around the card edges.

• Tied piece of twine around the top inside of the card base; used a blending brush to add some grunge with Scorched Timber ink.

• Placed mini clothes pins onto twine.
• Adhered Vintage Newspaper Clipping paper to the card base.
• Stamped image onto Cream card panel with embossing ink, dusted with gold embossing powder, and heat set it.
• Colored the image with colored pencils.

• Used a blending brush to add grunge to the card panel with Tea Dye ink.

• Added grunge to the sides of the card panel with Vintage Photo ink.
• Adhered card panel to base with double sided foam tape, ensuring the top of the panel is inserted into mouths of clothes pins.
• Created sentiment with label maker and adhered it to the card.

 

I love the rustic and vintage look & feel of this card.  It makes me want to put a turkey into the oven to roast right now!

Wonderful Day

It's design team member Walter on the blog today.  If you're anything like me, you likely have some patterned paper sitting around that you just never use.  I find that I'll buy paper collections for certain pieces and then have a bunch of sheets left over that just sit there.  I decided that I wanted to start to use it up and chose a piece to use for this project.  With the paper chosen, I went through my BPM stamps and saw the wonderful Special Days Clear Stamps Set by Pam Bray.  I just knew that the floral image and butterflies would go well with the patterned paper.  The paper has an almost country-like look to it and so I also thought that burlap paper would look nice with it as well.  I had a scrap burlap oval leftover from my last project and I could put it to use here.  Here's the design that came up with:

Here's what I used to make it:

• Special Day Clear Stamp Set
  
• Patterned paper from stash
• Burlap paper (oval scrap)
• White cardstock
• A2 card base
• Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Scorched Timber
• Simon Hurley Grrrr Brown Ink
• Delicata Golden Glitz Metallic Pigment Ink
• Gold gems

Here's how I made it:

• Cut patterned paper down to an A2 size and adhered it to the card base with double sided tape.

• Ink blended some Scorched Timber onto the burlap oval and then ran the ink pad around the edges of the oval.
• Adhered oval to the card base with double sided foam tape for added dimension.
• Used a nesting oval die smaller than the burlap oval and used it to cut out a white oval.

• Stamped the floral onto the white oval with Grrrr ink; stamped sentiment with Scorched Timber; and stamped butterflies with gold pigment ink.
• Smooshed some Scorched Timber ink onto a craft mat, spritzed it with water, and then used a brush to add some splatter to the oval.
• Once dry, adhered the white oval to the burlap oval with craft glue.
• Adhered three gold gems to the card.

This is such an easy card to make and a great way to use up patterned paper.  It's also very gender neutral - perfect for a guy or a gal!

Autumn Park Silhouette

It's design team member Walter on the blog today. By now you've heard me say several times how much I love creating vintage themed cards.  Today's creation is another example of this.  I fell in love with the IBFS Silhouette Stamp Set as soon as I saw it.  One of the larger stamps in the set is this beautiful scene set in a park.  I decided to use it in a monochromatic palette to make it look older and thought it would be really fun to have a burlap frame around it.  The result is a beautifully nostalgic scene that may be used for so many different occasions.  Let's jump into my creative process.

Here's what I used to make it:

• Silhouettes #1 from I Brake for Stamps
  
• Special Day Clear Stamp Set from Blank Page Muse (sentiment)
  
• A2 card base
• A2 sized piece of burlap paper
• A2 card panel
• Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Vintage Photo, Tea Dye, Scorched Timber, Lost Shadow
• Delicata Golden Glitz Metallic Pigment Ink
• Brutus Monroe Tea Stain Spray, Vignette Vintage Mist, Ice Gey Vintage Mist
• Pearl gems

Here's how I made it:

• Ink blended the card panel with Lost Shadow ink.

• Stamped the image onto card panel with black ink.
• Stamped the woman on bicycle just below the image to make it look like a path used for walking and riding.

• Ink blended some Vintage Photo and Scorched Timber along the path to darken it.
• Used an oval die to cut the center out of the burlap panel.

• Used a brown alcohol marker to darken the inside rim of the burlap panel.

• Spritzed the card panel and burlap panel with Tean Stain, Vignette Mist, and Ice Grey Mist and let them dry.

• Used craft glue to adhere the burlap panel over the card panel.
• Ran the Scorched Timber ink pad along the combined panel.
• Attached card panel to card base using double sided tape.
• Stamped the sentiment onto the card in Scorched Timber and the stamped it again with Golden Glitz ink.
• Attached pearl gems to the corners.

I really love this scene so much!  It has such a nostalgic feeling to me.  This is one card that I may end up framing and using as a decoration!

Hi, friends! It's design team member Walter on the blog today with my final Halloween card of this year.  Ghosts, haunted houses, a headless monster . . . this one has them all!  I thought it would be fun to build a scene that's framed by spiderwebs.  What do you think?

Here's what I used to make it:

• Halloween 3/4 Sheet
  
• Halloween Half Sheet #1
  
• A2 Black Card Base
• 3"x4.5" White Card Panel
• Distress Oxide Inks: Lost Shadow and Hickory Smoke
• Delicata Silvery Shimmer Metallic Pigment Ink
• Sakura Black Glaze Pen
• Sakura Gelly Roll White Gel Pen
• Silver metallic gel pen
• Alcohol Markers
• Ranger Glossy Accents

Here's how I made it:

• Stamped spider webs onto the card base using silver metallic ink; ran the ink pad around the edges of the card base; set aside to dry.

• Used the deckle edge blade of my paper trimmer to cut the white card panel.
• Ink blended the white card panel with Lost Shadow Distress ink; started to blend in the Hickory Smoke around 2/3 of the way down.

• Stamped the haunted house image onto the card panel with blank ink.

• Stamped ghost, gravestone, and headless figure onto a scrap of white cardstock with black ink.
• Colored each of the stamped images with alcohol markers and fussy cut them out.

• Colored the house image with alcohol markers and white gel pen; colored the moon background of the image with a silver metallic get pen,
• Adhered the stamped panel onto the card base with double sided foam tape.
• Adhered down the cut images with double sided foam tape.
• Outlined images with black glaze pen.
• Added Glossy Accents to the pumpkin and spider bodies.

What a fun celebration of Halloween!  Fun with just a little touch of spooky.

Vintage Book of Spells

Hi, friends! It's design team member Walter on the blog today.  October is the time of the year when we turn our attention to all things Halloween.  What's more Halloween than witches?  One of my favorite movies about witches is Hocus Pocus.  I never get tired of watching it!  It inspired my design for today's card.  I wanted to prominently feature a page from a very old book of spells - and I Brake for Stamps has the perfect set for it!  My card has lots of vintage grunge, a witch flying in front of the moon, and a potion for Witches Brew.

Here's what I used to make it:

• Halloween Half Sheet #1
  
• A2 Black Card Base
• 4"x5.25" Cream Card Panel
• 3.5"x5" Vintage Paper Panel
• Tim Holts Distress Inks: Antique Linen, Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, Ground Espresso
• Gold Metallic Marker
• Brutus Monroe Gold Acrylic Bubbles

Here's how I made it:

• Used the deckle edge blade of my paper trimmer to cut the 4"x5.25" cream card panel.
• Ran Ground Expresso Distress Ink around the edges of the card panel; used a blending brush to add grunge to the card panel with Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Inks.

• Used the deckle edge blade of my paper trimmer to cut the 3.5"x5" vintage paper panel.
• Ran Ground Expresso Distress Ink around the edges of the card panel; used a blending brush to add grunge to the card panel with Tea Dye and Vintage Photo Distress Inks.
• Stamped the witch image onto the vintage paper panel using Walnut Stain Distress Ink.
• Stamped the Witches Brew stamp under the witch image using Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

• Stamped the Spell Book stamp onto panel with Ground Espresso Distress Ink.
• Used gold metallic marker to color in the moon.

• Adhered stamped panel to the cream card panel using double sided foam tape.
• Adhered combined panel to card base with double sided tape.
• Ran the gold metallic marker around the edges of the card.

This is such a fun card!  These images lend themselves so well to a vintage design.  It really looks like a page from an old book of spells!

Thoughts of Autumn

It's design team member Walter on the blog today.  The temps here in New England have started to drop into the 60's, which means that Autumn is starting to creep in.  I love this weather - it's my favorite tome of the year.  I was thinking of this as I was trying to come with an idea for card and, naturally, leaves came to mind.  I was looking through my stamps and saw the IBFS Woman's Head stamp and thought . . . bingo!  What if I used her as the base of the image and then had fall colored leaves on top of her head in place of hair to symbolize thinking of Autumn?  I grabbed the stamp and started to create.

Here's what I used to create it:

• Woman's Head stamp from I Brake for Stamps
  
• Autumn Leaves dies from Kat Scrappiness
• Piece of brown shipping paper
• Piece of word patterned paper from stash
• A2 size card base
• Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Antique Linen, Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, Old Paper, Fired Brick, Rusty Hinge, Scorched Timber
• Brutus Monroe Ornament Gold Chroma Mist
• Gold Acrylic Bubbles
• Old fashioned label maker

Here's how I made it:

• Stamped the image with black ink and fussy cut it.
• Took the piece of shipping paper and crumpled it up; smoothed it out and then adhered to the A2 card base with double sided tape and craft glue.

• Ran the Scorched Timber ink pad around the edges of the card; used a blending brush to add some Tea Dye and Vintage Photo inks to the card.

• Used double sided foam tape to adhere the stamped image to the card.
• Ink blended the word patterned paper with Old Paper, Fired Brick, Rusty Hinge, and Antique Linen inks; spritzed it with Ornament Gold Chroma Mist

• Used leaf dies to cut out leaves from the patterned paper.

• Glued the leaves down to the image starting at her hairline and building up until all leaves were used.
• Used a label maker to create the sentiment, "Thoughts of Autumn."

• Glued down three gold acrylic bubbles.

I really like the symbolism of the leaves with words on them coming off of the top of her head!  It's such a fun depiction of thinking about Autumn.  Sometimes the best ideas come to life when you just let your mind wander!

Pumpkin Patch

Hi, friends!

It's design team member Walter back on the blog today.  I have so many fond memories of my family visiting a local farm in late September or early October to get our Halloween pumpkins.  We'd get one large one that my father would usually carve and then my sisters and I would each get a small one to decorate.  I looked forward to going to this particular farm because they had the best apple cider donuts and, of course, my mom would get some for us.  We'd walk around the farm and have a great time.  I miss those days and am so fortunate to have those cherished memories.  My card today is inspired by those memories.

Here's what I used to make it:

• Pumpkin Trio Stencil
  
• Pumpkin Patch Word Art Rubber Stamp by Pam Bray Designs
  
• Chipped Saphire Distress Oxide Ink and Vintage Photo Distress Ink
• Prima Marketing White Gesso
• Distress Grit Paste
• Pearlex Mica Powders: Spring Green and Pumpkin Orange
• Delicata Silvery Shimmer Pigment Ink
• Brutus Monroe Faux Seaweed (for the grass)
• Silver glitter stars
• x-press it Adhesive Sheet

Here's how I made it:

• Created an A2 Kraft card base and added grunge around the edges with Vintage Photo ink.
• Used an A2 sized piece of white card stock, adhered it to a piece of x-press it adhesive sheet.
• Took a scrap of brown shipping paper, approximately the size of the A2 panel, crumpled it up to create wrinkles, flattened it, and then adhered to top side of the x-press it adhesive sheet.  This creates a card panel that is stronger than just the shipping paper.

• Ink blended the card panel using Chipped Saphire ink.

• Cut out a rectangle with a deckle edge die.

• Took a liberal amount of gesso and grit paste and mixed them together; formed two distinct piles of it.

• Added pumpkin mica powder to one pile and mixed it.  Added green mica powder to the other and mixed it.
• Used a paint brush and colored pastes to create the pumpkin using the stencil.

• Lightly sprinkled additional green and pumpkin mica powder over the wet pastes and then dried the paste with a hair dryer.
• Once dry, lightly misted the panel with water to activate the mica powders.
• Stamped the words Pumpkin Patch with silver pigment ink.
• Adhered card panel to card base with double sided tape.
• Cut down a piece of faux seaweed and glued it to the bottom of the panel to look like grass.
• Glued down three silver glitter stars.

I really enjoy creating mixed media cards and this one was no exception!  It's so fun to create different textures and colors using different mediums.  The texture achieved on the pumpkin is exceptional - it isn't a smooth one-dimensional gourd!  Using the faux seaweed for grass is so much easier than using a die to cut it yourself.
