Altered Book with Photo Stamps

Hello friends! Today, I am on the blog with Blank Page Muse and I have created an altered book using an old book and stamps along with paint, stencils, and papers.

Supplies used -

Several Sentiments stamps from Blank Page Muse
Old book
Handmade paper
Assorted papers
Stapler
Art Glitter Glue
Gesso
Paintbrush
Acrylic paint in various colors

First of all, you will need to prep the book. To start this process, I tear out every other page so that the spine is not overloaded with pages, then glue two pages together for a less tear-resistant surface to work on. Coat each page with gesso and let dry.

While the pages are drying, stamp the images onto a mix of papers. I generally just stamp out my images onto several colors of paper then I have them ready when I am working on building the pages.

After the pages are dry, paint them with acrylic paint in a variety of colors, let dry, then make some marks with tools such as a credit card, stamps, pens, etc. with a contrasting color of paint. Let this dry. While your pages are drying, look over your assorted images and papers and start to piece them together in layers for the book pages. These pieces can be stapled or glued together or even stitched on before placing them in the book.

Now that the pages are dry, using large stencils and white or black paint or your choice of color, stencil over the book pages.
For the orange page above, I used the Water Cloud Masks by taping them down with painter's tape. After the stenciled pages are dry, keep adding marks, splatters, dots, and more. At this stage, the pages are ready for the images and papers that are layered. You can use ink on the edges or a water-soluble pencil and draw along the edges for emphasis. Also, add any sentiments that you like at this point. Your book is now finished!

Here are the finished pages. Just remember that if you don't like a page or colors you used, just keep adding layers!

Here is the cover, it had been painted with acrylic paint then crackle medium then layered with acrylic paint again to create the crackle, then using archival ink on the edges along with a glaze of paint over the top.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Dragonfly Mini Art Journal Page

Hello Blank Page Muse Fans!  Today, I thought I would share a mini art journal page that was recently added to my Bullet Journal.  This is a 8.2" X 5.5" format size, so the design could be used on an over-sized card as well, or expanded into a full sized 8.5 X 11 page with room to add more stamped dragonflies.

Supplies:
8.2" X 5.5" notebook page
Dragonfly Stamp
Flower border
Happiness Blooms from Within Sentiment Stamp
United Rings Stamp from Hearty Doodles set
Black Pigment Ink
White Pigment Ink
Clear embossing Powder
Distress Crayons [Gelatos or similar water based ink can work, in this case Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers by Tim Holtz Distress Oxides were used]
Brush [A watercolor brush with it's own reservoir was used in this case]
Water

Instructions:
1. Scribble a mid-range green Distress Crayon across the top of your blank page filling in half of the page.  Taking your blue, scribble from the bottom to the middle of the page. Overlap a bit in the center.

2. Using your brush and some water, brush across the page, blending the crayons and diluting the colors.  Pull edge to edge, drawing out the color to the paper borders.  It should look like a light wash of color framing the heavier colored center. Once  it's all blended out, allow to dry.

3. Once dry, stamp out corner (upper left) to opposite corner (bottom right) in black pigment ink the flower border and emboss.

4. Stamp Sentiment with black pigment ink centered on page, then embossed.

5. Stamp the dragonfly on the left side, near the text and the flowered border stamp. Emboss with the clear powder.

6. Inking up with white pigment ink, stamp the Linked-Circle stamp a bit randomly, filling in some of the negative space and open areas.  Emboss using the clear embossing powder.

I found this page was super easy and an inspirational way to enjoy the beginning of the summer months.

Clockwork Tag

Don't you just love steampunk?
Look at this beautiful tag that Suzette made using stamps from Blank Page Muse!

  1. She began by covering the tag with coffee stained book paper for a vintage look.
  2. Next she added gesso in areas to push back the background some.
  3. When that was dry she stamped the tag using Vintage Analog Alarm Clock Rubber Stamp and Versafine Black Ink.
  4.  Some Sepia Golden Fluid Acrylic was added, taking care not to cover the clock-face.
  5. Finally, she stamped the background with  The Hearty Doodles Art Rubber Stamp Set and stuck on some gears.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I do hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Remember to subscribe so you don't miss a post and look us up on social media (links below).

Happy crafting!

Flamingo Card

Hello BPM Fans!!

Today I would like to show you how I created a Flamingo card for the Under the Sea theme this month.  I was a bit out of my element for the projects this month and I am not a big ocean/sea fan. I like to sit in my pool in the summer, fewer animals in my pool and no sand to drag into the house later! I work a lot of hours and I like to have time to create and not spending all my time cleaning house!

Supplies used

Other supplies used -
tissue paper
ink in 3 pink colors
black ink
markers
glue stick
stamp platform
foam tape
white embossing powder
Versamark ink
black cardstock
white watercolor paper
white card base

1. Using the different pink inks, stamp them randomly in a line on a piece of white tissue paper with stamps from the Background Grunge sheet and the Hearty Doodles sheet, then using the black ink, stamp the Open Weave Fishnet in a line on white tissue paper. I used the circles from the Background Grunge stamp and repeatedly stamped them over each other. I used the script stamps from the Correspondence Pens sheet and stamped it in a line on the white tissue paper.

Quick tip - To tear the tissue paper, use a fine line brush with very little water and draw a line down the tissue paper, tear along this line to give you a nice torn edge.

2. Taking one of your stamped tissue pieces, glue it down about 2/3 from the edge of the black cardstock. Repeat with the other two layers.

3. Using the stamp platform, stamp the Flamingo several times onto watercolor paper then color the flamingo with markers. I used several colors over each other to get the effect I was looking for on the feathers. Then fussy cut the flamingo and glue it over the layered tissue paper.
4.  Next, using the Dear Beach sentiments the were cut apart, stamp in Versamark ink onto black cardstock and heat emboss with white embossing powder. then trim down to fit across the card front.

This card could be used for any occasion!  Don’t forget to check out the stamps at Blank Page Muse.

Art Journaling Cards

Hi BPM fans!

Mercy here to chat with you about putting some pizzazz into your scrapbooking.  If you're like me, you might like the photo cropping and page design part of the process, but the journaling part is a real struggle.  I'm personally uninspired to write down notes about whatever event I'm scraping and have found myself not bothering for years.  And then, by that time, I forget dates, times and details of that day.  If I do bother to journal, it's usually on a boring piece of scrap and really, doesn't help the actual format of the page.  Wanting to change things up with my layouts, I thought it might be nice to highlight the journaling itself by creating these decorative journal boxes to be added onto simplier pages to dress them up.

As I created these, I had a lot of fun with coming up with different formats and images for the journaling boxes. Part of my challenge with this project was to try an use up some twenty plus year old embossing powder and some of the many scraps I have for this project.

Supplies:

(Shop now and save! Use code BPMDtMercy2019 to save %15 off your total order!)

Cardstock Scraps in White, Light Green, & Red
Versamark Ink (or any clear Embossing ink you have)
Black Archival Ink
Distress Oxide Mustard Seed
Gold Embossing Powder
Black Fine Embossing Powder

Instructions:

1. Find some scraps of paper that you need to use up and cut into 4 X 2.5 strips of paper.

2. Taking the darker shaded scrap paper, ink the entire surface in Versamark ink and heat embossed with gold embossing powder (you can use any color for this since you are embossing its surface).  Make sure to cover the entire page with several layers of embossing to get a smooth golden finish and no paper should be exposed.

3. Once the first sheet is cool, set aside and stamp out the various pens, logos and images onto white card stock in black permanent ink with embossing ink and black powder. Heat emboss.  After everything is cooled, fussy cut out the pens, ink bottle and smaller stamped images.

4. Cut 3 separate 3 3/4 X 2.1/4 pieces of white card stock and one light green scrap.

5. Grabbing one of the white 3 3/4 X 2.1/4 papers, stamp top center of the white paper using the One Penny Geo W. Hughes stamp with embossing ink, then heat emboss with black powder.

Embossed strip of paper and  the cut down white cardstock with the One Penny stamp impressed.
6. Add the connected Connected Circles in Mustard Seed stamped randomly across the white areas. Ink the edges of the card. Adhere the white stamped card to the embossed scrap.

7. Take the Crackle Background Art Rubber Stamp and the light green cropped paper, stamp across the entire scrap.  Fill in the edges and outer rim of the paper with the small Dotted Stamp. Keep in mind to allow the paper below to show through.

Small dotted stamp from the Hearty Doodle set.
8. Glue the stamped paper to the embossed background card. Stamp with archival black ink on a red scrap using one of the larger heart doodles.  Fussy cut the heart out and glue it to the bottom left corner.

9. Taking the last two white cropped papers, stamp randomly with the connected circle stamp in yellow ink. Adhere that paper to the embossed paper, centering it. Take the remaining fussy cut embossed images (pens, ink bottle, etc) and arrange across the yellow inked paper. Leave room for journaling. Once you arrange the way you prefer, glue everything down.

10. Attach these to scrapbook pages, or slide into photo albums. Journal across them. Share your thoughts and dream through them.

Completed journaling cards.  Using this same technique, you can experiment with other stamps as well from Blank Page Muse to match your scrapbooking pages.

Journal Away!

Dress Form Card

Hello Ladies,
Karen here and I'm bringing a card with a bit of vintage antique which is not my usual style. The muted colors and brown distressed edges are the trademark of the vintage look. The simple dress form suited the seamstress theme I had in mind. This sentiment is perfect to lend that extra bit of support to someone struggling with life's circumstances. Sometimes a simple act of encouragement can really lift someone's spirit. Don't forget to share your creations with us on the Blank Page Muse Fan Page.
