Postcard Mail Art

Hi Everyone!

Since this month is all about Mail Art, I thought I'd show you how to make this bright and fun looking postcard with some materials that you probably already have!
I'm all about thinking outside of the box and if I can save money doing it, well then alright!

To make this, you will need the following:
  1. Medallions Ornate Stamps (I used a small design, but any will work!)
  2. Petals and Flowers
  3. Pink background paper of your choice - Can be store bought or water-colored.
  4. Thin cardboard. (I used a cardboard insert that came with some processed photos)
  5. Clear Packing tape
  6. Black pigment ink pad
  7. Peacock feathers oxide ink.
  8. Gold acrylic paint and a stipple brush or other dry paint brush.

Cut your card board to a standard postcard size.  About 5.8 x 4.1 inches.
Cut your background paper to a little smaller than the postcard.

From the Petals and Flowers stamp set, ink and stamp your choice of a leaf all around as a border.

Next, ink and stamp any medallion as much or as little as you want.

Add a touch of gold here and there.
Then distress the edges with the black ink pad.

Overlap strips of the clear packing tape and lay across the top of your card, sticky side up.
Using your black pigment ink, stamp directly onto the sticky tape. Don't rock the stamp or the image will smear. It helps to stand up while doing this part so you have better control in your stamping process.

When you are done, flip the tape over and apply carefully the tape to the front of your card.
(Think of how you would apply a window decal.)
Press the tape firmly all over the card and trim off any excess.

So cool right?
The packing tape technique not only looks great,
but it helps protect the postcard from 'elements' as it travels to its destination!
