Masking Tape "Make Over"!!!

 Hi Stamping Fans!

Hope everyone is well and getting to enjoy some time for stamping & crafting!

Here in Australia it's Winter which means I get more time to create and play with all my rubber stamps and excess crafting items!

Today I have some homemade "washi tape" to share with you using masking tape, paint and of course stamps available in store!

I started with strips of masking tape - I used a piece of acetate to lay the masking tape on - keeps the "sticky" and also I didn't have to worry about the excess paint and stamping!

This is so easy to do - you can use any colored paint and any of your fav background, pattern and filler stamps to decorate. You can rip it up or use in strips as is - perfect for all your mixed media creations!

Currently I'm in a vintage, monochrome "mood" so I've been doing a lot of creating with neutral and brown tones in my journals and altered art creations!

Just Quickly Before We Say Goodbye to the Festive Season..........

 Hi BPM Fans!

Well another silly season is over with! And Welcome to the New Year - 2021 - can you believe it?

It is very unusual for me to be creating something in advance of Xmas for this year BUT this is just a super quick idea for you to be able to recycle some of the Xmas cards you received and save adding them to landfill or if you had leftover store bought cards! This is a great way to "jazz up" store bought cards!

Supplies:

Blank Page Muse Stamps: Joyful Gnome Set designed by Pam Bray

Store Bought Xmas Cards/Recycled Xmas Cards Received!

Black Ink Pad & Scrap Card plus Colouring Mediums

Base Cards if using Recycled Card Fronts - Not Required if you have left over Store Bought Cards

General: tape, glue, scissors, colouring mediums, washi tape 

Instructions:

If recycling received cards cut off the card front and adhere to a card base. If you are using unused store bought cards you are ready to decorate!

Stamp your images onto white card with black ink, colour and fussy cut.

Add some strips of washi tape to the card front.

Add your stamped images along with any embellishments to the card front and adhere.

Such a quick way to make multiple cards ready for the end of this year!

Making Your Own Patterns From Leftover Rubber Stamps

One of the things I love about buying stamps from Blank Page Muse, 

is that I can purchase them un-mounted. 

This means I can mount them myself and use the leftover rubber bits 

to create my own pattern stamps!

Bookmarks I made using leftover rubber.

  

I always save leftover rubber after I've mounted my stamps.. 

I save the scraps of cling mounting foam that I use as well. 

Those odd shapes are perfect for small stamp designs or individual letters.

Or for making my own patterns! 

 So many different things I can use these for!

I see bubbles, sprinkles and journaling lines. 

Fun to play with too!

Time is a Healer

Hello everyone, Monique here with a new mixed media project for Sin City Art Stamps

Supply list:

Sin city rubber stamp set Wing it

Chalk Paints in  Blue, Red, grey-green and white.

Metallic paint in gold

Matte varnish

Crackle medium

Antiquing cream in black

Gesso

Burlap

Cardboard 

Waterproof stamp ink in black

Colored pencils

Dies (swirl and scroll-work)

Die-cutting machine

Assorted embellishments 

twine

Alphabet stickers or stamps 

White cardstock

Distress inks in green and brown

HOW TO:

Step 1: stamp the image onto white cardstock and color it using pencils

Step 2: Take a piece of a cardboard box and remove parts of the top layer

 Step 3: Remove some threads from a piece of burlap to create frays on the edges. Add a layer of gesso on the burlap like in the picture

 Step 4: Paint the cardboard blue and add a little white using an almost dry paint brush.

Step 5 : Add some red paint

 Step 6: Die cut the swirl and the scrollwork, then paint them with the grayish green with gold.
To give it an aged look, remove some of the paint with a babywipe or wet cloth.

 Step 7: Add 3 layers of matte varnish, letting it dry in between layers.
This is to seal the image before using the crackle medium.

Step 8: Apply a layer of crackle medium. As the medium dries, it will create an effect as if it is an old painting complete with aged cracks.  Rub some black antiquing cream to further age the image by rubbing it into the cracks.

Step 9: Add water to some black paint and use this to help age the burlap.

Step 10: Assemble the piece with strong adhesive and add some finishing gold details around the edges and on your added embellishments.


Here some close up pictures, the crackle doesn't show very well in the photos but it's there!

Alice in Wonderland from Sin City Stamps

This is Karen from Starshine Salon.

Sin City Stamps has two new plates of Alice in Wonderland stamps!  You can see them here and here.

I decided to create a Wonderland Tea with mine.  The first piece I made was a centerpiece for the table.


I started with a vintage linen centerpiece.  I love the lace border!  A little dip in tea hid some stains, and I decided to place my panels so that one of them would hide the hole.


I stamped the images onto tea dyed muslin.  Stamping on fabric usually works best with tightly woven fabrics.  For this project, I chose a piece of muslin that was smooth but not stiff, so that it didn’t interfere with the soft hand of the linen.  I used Colorbox Chalk Ink in Dark Brown and heat set the images with an iron.  For more information on stamping on fabric, check out this post.

I like to stamp onto a piece of fabric that I can discard if the image doesn’t come out well.  I also like to stamp on a piece of fabric that is larger than I think I will need, and then trim the fabric later.  That way if I stamp crooked or off-center, I can make up for that when I trim the piece.



I trimmed all the pieces to the same size using a rotary cutter.  Then I pinned them in place on the centerpiece.



I stitched each piece down with a zigzag stitch.  Then I added vintage lace around each panel.







I’m still contemplating what other pieces I will make for my Wonderland Tea.  I hope you’ll check back and see what I come up with!
