Mausoleum Gift Card Holder With Altered Pages

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the second half of our monthly partnership with Altered Pages.  For the next two weeks, both design teams will be creating Halloween themed projects using products from both Sin City Stamps and Altered Pages.  So if you love Halloween, like I do, you won't want to miss all the inspiration from both design teams.

I had a hard time deciding what to make, but then I saw this house-shaped gift card holder die from Eileen Hull.  Instantly, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.  So, in keeping with the genre, I turned that house into a mausoleum.   Oooooh, spooky, right?

Supplies used:

Sin City Stamps:  Halloween Takes Flight stamp set; Halloween Bingo stamp set; Art Journaling with Terri Sproul 2 stamp set;

Altered Pages:  AP-562 The Other Side of Halloween collage sheet; Jet Black StazOn ink pad; Niji Oil Pastels; Scor Tape; Glitz Giant Rhinestones (Raven); Faber-Castell Big Brush Pen (Black); Stickles glitter glue

Other:  Eileen Hull/Sizzix Gift Card Holder-House; chipboard; Cuttlebug rose die, Odorless Mineral Spirits; cotton swab; StazOn Orange Zest; Distress markers

Directions:

Die cut house gift card holder from black chipboard or matboard.  Die cut back panel only from orange card stock.  Adhere to inside back panel.

Print "Greetings at Halloween" collage image onto white paper, trim, and adhere to back piece, centering through door opening.

Lay strips of Scor tape around edges of front inside panel, as shown.

Die cut another gift card holder from kraft card stock.  Separate door from front panel and set rest of die cut aside.  Stamp "Oct. 31" from Halloween Bingo stamp set onto card stock with Orange Zest StazOn ink, edging with black Staz On, as shown.  Remember to stamp it so that when the door is opened, the viewer can read it.
Adhere to door panel on the inside, as shown in Figure 1.

Remove adhesive paper from Scor Tape, close chipboard and adhere front panel to back panel.

Cut door section only from orange card stock. Leave some extra length at the bottom of the door to wrap over fold.  Stamp tombstone moon onto center with black ink, color moon with white pencil and the tombstone with gray pencil.

Adhere to front door panel, wrapping extra length over fold at bottom.

Adhere two small strips of the same kraft card stock to cover the fold on either side of the door, as shown.
Stamp brick background with black ink randomly over kraft card stock die cuts, as shown.  Apply yellow and brown oil pastels over brick work, blend with cotton swab dampened with odorless mineral spirits.
Adhere front and back panels, respectively. This will cover those small strips you added earlier.

Back Panel
Die cut one more strip of the orange cardstock to make the roof line on the back panel.
Stamp "Dead Men Tell No Tales" onto orange card stock with black ink, punch with decorative punch, distress edges with black, adhere to front with foam dots.
Die cut 7 roses from black chipboard, adhere to front panel.  Apply Stickles glitter glue in Black Diamond over roses.
Adhere one Glitz rhinestone (bats) onto front.
Stamp skull pot with black ink onto purple scrap cardstock. Fussy cut and adhere to bottom of back panel, as shown.
Stamp flying skeleton onto white card stock, coloring directly onto stamp with Distress ink markers.  Huff before stamping to re-moisten the ink.  Fussy cut and adhere to back panel, as shown.
Stamp small owl with moon onto scrap green card stock with black ink, fussy cut owl only, adhere to back panel, as shown.
Distress ink all edges with Black Soot, and use Big Brush Artist Pen in black around matboard edges.
And here is the complete gift card holder with the front door open.  You can see the beautiful lady inside, waiting to cast a spell on you!
I hope you have enjoyed my project today, and inspired you to get started on your Halloween projects. Both Sin City Stamps and Altered Pages have a wonderful supply of products for all of your creative needs.  I hope you will take a look at their online shops, and please be sure to visit both teams for more fun Halloween projects this month.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful, creative weekend!

Noel, noel

Hello everyone, Astrid here from the UK and I would like to start by wishing you all the most wonderful, peaceful and fulfilled Holiday Season!!

Today I am sharing a cover I made for a mini book that is going to contain photos of our family Christmas. My grand daughter is over from Australia and I know there will be many treasured memories to scrap.
These are the products I used for my project:
Stamps:
Winter Wonderland plate
Other products:
Carta Bella Christmas Day collection DP
Ranger Potting Soil Archival ink
3 sheets buff coloured A4 card (8.5 by 11")
Other scraps of white card and DP
Martha Stewart decorative edge punch
Tim Holtz/Sizzix Tattered Pinecones die
Various Snowflake dies
Vintage Photo Distress Ink and glitter
Iced Spruce Distress Ink
Antique Linen Distress Paint
Lace trim
Dark brown lace
Cream coloured smooth card
Sewing machine (if wished).
Your favourite adhesive.

1.I started by creating the central panel. I cut the piece of cream coloured card to 5.5 b 5.5" and stitched around the edges with my sewing machine. (This step could easily be left out).
2. Next I distressed the edges and inked around the outside with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and stamped the skating children and some of the snowflakes in Potting Soil Archival Ink. I also did some first and second generation stamping of the snow flakes with Iced Spruce Distress Ink. I then glittered the children and the centre of the brown snowflakes with Vintage Photo Distress Glitter.
Here you can see the background stamping with Iced Spruce a bit better

3. Next I worked on the word Noel die cut, this was a gift from a friend and came from another Tim Holtz/Sizzix Die. I dabbed it with the Antique Linen Distress Paint and when dry dabbed some Potting Soil Archival ink over it.
4. Time to create the actual covers. For this I cut two pieces of the buff card to 8.5 by 10"
For the spine I cut a further piece to 8.5 by 3" and scored it 1 3/8" in from both sides, leaving me with a 1/4" bit in the middle. I gave one of the sides a decorative edge. I glued that around the two covers on the outside.
5.For the inside I created an accordion binding by scoring a bit of 8.5 x 6" card every half inch. I then folded it accordion style and glued in place on the inside of the covers as you can see from the photo.
The inside pages will later be tucked in between the folds and glued in place.
6. Before adhering the central panel to the covers I inked the corners from the back and curled the edges for a bit more interest.
7. Now for the fun bit, - embellishing the cover:
I cut the pine cone and branches from some scraps of card and coloured them with my two chosen colours of Distress Inks. I also cut various snowflakes and layered them up together and finally the whole thing was finished with some lace and beaded trim as you can see from the photos.

Well, I hope you like my mini book cover, I can't wait to start to design the inside pages and fill them with my holiday photos.

Thanks you so much for visiting today and don't forget to spent some time being creative this holiday season!!

Halloween Bat House

Hello everyone, and Happy October!  Can you believe it?  Halloween is almost here, and then Thanksgiving, and then Christmas.  I cannot believe how time is flying.  Needless to say, I am so enjoying playing with my wonderful Halloween stamps from Sin City Stamps.  And to top it all off, our sponsor this month is The Robin's Nest.  So we get to share some fun ideas using these wonderful papers and great stamps all in one project.
I got this wonderful Sizzix 3D Birdhouse die designed by Eileen Hull.  I knew I wanted to make something with it for Halloween, so I decided that the bats of the world needed a place to live.  Hence, by Halloween Bat House came to be.
