Hello! Welcome to the BPM blog. I am back with another art journal page. For today's project, I used the following Blank Page Muse products:
The above page was not my planned layout. I tried that plan twice but I am not feeling my doodling so I had to try a third time. The next page of my re-purposed planner is a calendar month page. The block appearance of the stage gave me a new and different idea for an art journal page.
I used one of the flower stamps from the set. I adhered the stamp to an acrylic block with a washable glue stick. Since I am using different colored dye inks on one stamp, I started with the lightest ink working towards the darkest ink. I also did a second generation stamping which is a technique of using the residual ink on the stamp after the initial stamping.
I made sure that I clean the stamp in between the inks so as not to contaminate the ink pad with another color. Cleaning the stamp in between inks also assures you that you are getting the true color of the ink pad. Since I used a washable ink, the glue might weaken especially if it is exposed to water. Just re-apply the glue on the back of the stamp if this happens.
After I stamped the flower on all the blocks, I inked one of the large flower stamps with the same yellow dye ink I used on the smaller flower. I used a stamp positioning tool to stamp the image on a white cardstock. I attached the stamp to the stamp positioner using a washable glue stick.
I pressed the inked stamp to the white cardstock. I wanted the yellow impression to be darker so I inked the stamp again and re-stamped the image. This is one advantage of using a stamp positioner.
The sentiment stamp I used comes as a one lined sentiment. I wanted the sentiment to be inside the circle of the flower. To achieve this, I did partial stamping of the sentiment. I covered the word that I don't want inked with a piece of tape.
I inked the exposed stamp then carefully removed the tape.
I stamped the inked sentiment to the paper. If I need to re-stamp the sentiment, I just repeat the steps of masking and inking the sentiment stamp.
I cleaned the ink off the stamp really well before repositioning the sentiment stamp.
I repeated the process of masking but this time, I covered the word that I have stamped already. Just like what I did on the first word, I inked this part of the sentiment stamp, removed the tape, then stamped the word on the cardstock.
Now, the sentiment fits inside the flower. If you don't like to mask and do partial stamping technique, you can just cut the words apart. You can always re-align the words when you want to stamp it as a one lined sentiment.
I fussy cut the flower leaving a small white border around it.
I added white lines to the petals using a white gel pen.
I always use a pick up tool and a small tip glue when I work with tiny die cuts like this.
I stacked 3 pieces of circle die cuts behind the fussy cut flower to add some dimension. I spritz shimmer spray to this piece before adhering it to the page.
