Hello! Welcome back to the BPM blog. For the month of December, the team is doing an Alternate Take on Christmas theme. For my journal page, I colored the pines with color blue instead of the traditional brown.
The stencil I used on this page is BPM Pinecones stencil.
Since I am doing a multi-color inking on the stencil, I masked the areas I don't want to apply the blue ink on. There are masking papers available in the market but I used Post-It Notes instead.
I started with the lightest ink color, blending this all over the pine cones. I used a larger blending brush for this purpose. For the detailing, in which I applied the darker blue ink on some parts of the pine cone, I used a smaller blending brush. I wiped off the blue ink before proceeding to the next step.
I applied brown ink on the branches. I also used a small blending brush for this. Since the brush is smaller, a mask is not necessary. I needed to hold the stencil secure. I don't trust my inky fingers. To keep the pine cones free of another ink, I used a Post-It Note to put my fingers on as I keep the stencil down while I blend the brown ink on the branches.
I used another small blending brush to blend green ink on the leaves.
You can stop here but I did not like the uncolored spaces in between the prickly parts of the pine cones.
I only blended ink over the pine cones.
I cut an opening on this Post-It Note. I cut off the stenciled pine cone.
I positioned this mask back on the art journal, lining the opening to the ink blended pine cone on the art journal.
I blended a lighter blue ink on this open area, over the ink blended pine cone.
I inked the BPM Handwritten Note Art rubber stamp with gray dye ink.
I tapped this to the open areas surrounding the pine cones. I did not use a stamping block since I just want a part of the stamp impression.
I wrote a pine cone quotation. I blended ink on the edges, using a rectangular paper to mask the center portion of the page.
I hope you like today's project.
