Sunflower Dreams

Hi, friends!

It's design team member Walter back on the blog today.  Sunflowers have a special meaning for me.  They were my mom's favorite.  She grew them in her yard - a tradition that one of my sisters has kept going since mom passed away.  They're such strong, resilient, and beautiful flowers.  I wanted to feature them since they're considered a fall flower and also in loving memory of my mom.

Here's what I used to make it:

Here's how I made it:

  • Cut a piece of white card stock to 4.5"x6.5" and ink blended it with Tumbled Glass ink to create a sky.
  • Stamped sentiment towards middle of card panel with black ink.
  • Stamped dragon fly in top right corner with black ink.
  • Colored dragon fly with gel pens (purple, green, and white).
  • Stamped two sunflowers onto a scrap of white cardstock, colored them with alcohol markers, and fussy cut them.
  • Determined position of sunflowers on card panel and then hand draw & color stalks and leaves with Rustic Wilderness ink; add some yellow highlights with Squeezed Lemonade ink.
  • Use double sided tape to adhere card panel to a 5"x7" Kraft card base.
  • Adhere sunflower heads onto stalks with double sided foam tape strips.
  • Use white pigment ink and a blending brush to tap some white clouds onto the card panel.
  • Glued down three gems in upper left hand corner.
The result is a very pretty, yet simple, encouragement card.  I know that my mom would have loved it.

Thank you for spending some time here with me today.  See you again soon!
