A Christmas Clock with Walnut Hollow

Hello, and welcome to my first Sin City Stamps post for December.  This month, we are proud to have Walnut Hollow as our sponsor.

I began my project with their rustic wood ledge.  It is quite rough, but instead of sanding it, I covered it with a good, thick coat of white gesso.  I wanted to maintain the texture without getting splinters.

Next, I covered the front and sides of the box with the green gold texture paint.  This paint is very thick and needed to be applied with a palette knife.  After spreading a medium thick coat, I dabbed the paint with the side of my knife to obtain this cool texture.

Mist entire box with Turquoise Shimmer Mist, then Primary Yellow, dabbing some of the excess mist as you go.  Let dry.

Apply Patina Gilder's Paste to high spots with your best tool, your finger.

Mist entire box again with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls mist.  Let dry.  Can you see the pretty gold flecks?

Apply German Silver Gilder's Paste to the high spots, leaving some of the Patina showing.  Now I am really loving it.

Drill  a hole in the center of the wooden snowflake large enough for the clock hand shaft to go through easily.  I also stamped snowflakes from Penguins on Ice set with Versamark ink and silver embossing powder.

Paint the wooden snowflake with the orange yellow metal color paint.  Let dry.  Use a baby wipe or damp paper towel and gently remove the orange yellow paint from on top of the embossed snowflakes to reveal the silver embossing.

Adhere two Clock Die Cuts together for extra thickness.

Heat emboss the clock die with Versamark ink and silver embossing powder.  Two coats of embossing powder were needed to get a smooth, metal look.

Adhere clock face to front of wooden snowflake.  

Paint the metal pendulum with the orange yellow metal color paint.  Let dry.  The photo shows just the hanger painted to show you the difference.

Measure and paint two ¼" wooden dowels with the orange yellow metal paint and adhere to lower half of box along the sides.

Put clock parts together and adhere wooden snowflake clock onto box at the top, just above the two dowels.  Adhere glittered snowflake to pendulum, and three rusty metal snowflakes to inside box.

Adhere reindeer ornament and holly sprig to bottom of box.

Select four matching scroll die cut pieces from the Clock Die Cuts, cover with Versamark ink, and heat emboss with a rust embossing powder.  The photo shows the one on the left "rusted".

Adhere to the sides of the box in the center.

Countdown To Christmas

Countdown to Christmas

I can't believe it's December already. 

There is no snow here so it's hard to get into the Christmas spirit.

I decided to make a Christmas canvas to get me in the spirit.

This canvas is kind of a prelude to my project in two weeks.

I covered a canvas with tissue paper..

I would have loved to had music notes but this is what I had.

I stamped on some music notes.

I also stamped some in red later.

I tore the paper I wanted to use.. 

I did two different sizes just to see what works best.

I got the tree glued down and added the roman numerals

(made by Terri Sproul)

I then added acrylic paint around the edges

and glitter just inside that..

added the words.. Countdown To Christmas.

I added doodles around the tree.

I added the star (cut from Cricut cart)

I decided I couldn't see the numbers very good..

I stamped the numbers again and cut out

and added to my canvas.

The Stockings Were Hung By The Chimney With Care Christmas Card

Hello everyone!  Can you believe it is December already?  My how time flies when you are having fun.  And speaking of fun, I am having so much fun with Pam Bray's new Christmas stamp sets.  

If you know anything about me, you know I love dimension, and I found this fabulous pop-up fireplace card on my Silhouette.  It was just what I needed to hang my stamped Christmas stockings and place my gift box.  Yeah, only one gift so far, but it is early.  LOL

Here is the front of the card.  I folded a print card stock in half to make a 5" x 7" card, stamped and colored  Santa onto white card stock and cut around him, adhering to a 3" doily.  Dear Santa ... was stamped onto a note card from the paper collection, and a Santa definition from my Silhouette added.

And here is what you see on the inside.  Isn't this fabulous?  I cut the pop-up out in full once, and two more times in the parts I needed so I could have the base (beige), the red bricks (red), and the wooden mantel (tan).  I ran the tan mantel piece through a woodgrain embossing folder and darkened the grain with a brown ink.  The red piece was embossed with a brick embossing folder and highlighted with a white ink.  Now to hang the stockings with care, and set the first present nearby.  

Here is a view from above.  You can see the stamped sentiment from Pam's Christmas Collection 2, stamped in green StazOn and die cut with a fancy labels die.

Here is a close-up view of those cute stockings and present that I stamped onto white card stock, colored and cut out to hang on the mantel.  I used a red Pico embellisher pen to make the berry dots on the garland, and on the stockings.

Christmas Journaling Fun

Hello! Peggy here to show you a two page journal with a jingle kinda theme...I'm just in that kind of mood lately ya know with the tree an all already up. Haha So, this month we are partnering with Cottonwood Arts.

The first thing I did was sketch out a santa face so I knew approx. where he would be on both pages. Then I got out my stamps and white gesso. I stamped randomly with my unmounted stamps using gesso as a resist. Next I watercolored a blue background.

I used red gelatos to bring out that resist. More background stamping this time with blue stazon ink.

Time for texture! But before this stage I used dictionary paper for a mustash. Next the molding paste. Like icing a cake! 

 I used copic markers to color his face

 More stamping with white gesso, rolling my stamp over the page with a brick background. And now embellishments with some fussy cutting and glue.

Butterfly Canvases

Hello! It's Gracie. This month Sin City Stamps has partnered with Cottonwood Arts. I've used their excellent canvases for various projects of mine, and today I want to share a set of butterfly canvases I've colored and embellished.


Though I have presented these canvases individually, I had the intention of coordinating their design to hang them together as a set. I used 6"x 6" round corner canvases.

Dear Santa Card by Pam Bray

Dear Santa...... Don't you love my stockings that I have stamped and colored using my SinCity Christmas Stamp Set. I began by layering green and brown card stock that I distress using my Tim Holtz distress tool and placing them on a white card base using my Xyron Tape Runner.

Stamp and color three sets of stockings using your favorite markers...I used Copic Markers.  Once colored...fussy cut and layer them together using pop dots and place on card front using your Xyron Tape Runner.

Add a couple of clothespins to the front of the card front to make it look like the Christmas Stockings are hanging from the string. Add a small red twine bow to each stocking along with a "Dear Santa" sentiment that I cut from the paper collection. PLACE CARDS WITH TERRI SPROUL LEAVES AND COTTONWOOD ARTS

I am having a total of 9 people for Thanksgiving dinner this year and thought pretty place cards would be perfect for my table.  I only have 4 so far, I better get busy!!

Materials:

• SinCity Stamps "Terri Sproul Leaves" Stamps
• Cottonwood Arts Cold Press Blocks 6"x6"
• DecoArt Media Acrylic Paints, Cadmium Red, Primary Yellow, Titanium White
• Tombow Mono Removable Adhesive
• Misc.: Leaves and Pearls

Score both sides of the cold press block in the center. 

By scoring (not cutting) the cold press block on both sides, you get a perfectly folded card.

I squeezed some paint on my craft mat and mixed them to tone down the yellow and make the orange.

Using the removable adhesive I put a 1.5" x 2" piece of cardstock in the center of one side of the place card.  This space will be saved for the names.

Use all of the colors to paint the blocks, make sure to show the different shades of yellow, orange and red.  When the paint is dry, stamp the leaves with brown ink and let them dry.  Then remove the cardstock from the center.

Add the names and embellish the place cards with pearls and leaves.
