Penguin Winter-Lori

Hello, crafty friends, it's Lori from Coast2CoastCards. Happy New Year! Today, on Blank Page Muse's Blog I have a card with this sweet little ice fishing penguin. It may be 70 degrees here in South Carolina, but this little critter is in the snow and ice having fun. Follow along for step-by-step instructions.

I began with a larger piece of Neenah Classic Crest Cover Solar White 110lb cardstock. My Curious Penguin With Small Fish stamp from Penguins On Ice Winter Holiday set, is unmounted, so I laid it flat on the table, inked it up, then rubbed the cardstock over it. I knew I wouldn't be able to get it exactly straight, so I used a large piece of cardstock. I also inked up some of the snowflakes from the same set in blue. I inked both at the same time.

There are two ways you can turn your stamped image into a panel: trim with a timmer or use a die. I chose the former, as I wanted a stitched edge. The panel measures 3 3/4 x 5".

Here is the panel after I colored it with Copics. I used cool greys for the penguin, pinks and teals for his hat and scarf, blues for the water and ice, and greens and blues for the fish. I like using unexpected combinations of colors for winter and Christmas scenes, like the pink and teal.

I free-range stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set with a black pigment ink for a crisp image. I had already colored everything, so I held my breath!

Final card. I matted the panel with a teal panel to tie in the color in the penguin's hat and scarf. I then added them to a top folding A2 white notecard. I hope you are enjoying your winter as much as this cute little penguin.

Stenciling on Art Journal Page & a Giveaway

Hello! Welcome back to the BPM blog. For this month, I will be featuring BPM stencils on my projects. And, there is a GIVEAWAY! I received extra stencils from Kim, BPM's owner. She agreed for me to offer it as a giveaway (Thank you, Kim!) The stencils I will use on my projects for this month will be the giveaway. More instructions at the end of this post.

I used the BPM Stoneworks stencil on my art journal.

This stencil has intricate parts which has the potential to move when I blend ink with a brush. To prevent this, I sprayed the stencil with a temporary adhesive which makes the back of the stencil tacky without harming the stencil.

I positioned the stencil on my journal. I used a blending brush to apply ink over the stencil.

I blended ink on two succeeding pages of the journal. My stencil is shorter than the journal. I moved the stencil down to continue the pattern.

I fussy cut the first blended journal page, following the curved edges of the stones.

Instead of pitching the cut part of the journal, I blended ink over this to create a middle page.

The photo above shows how I moved the stencil downwards to continue the pattern of the stones.

I applied glue next to the spine of the journal.

I adhered the blended cut up page to the adhesive.

I set this aside to give the liquid glue a chance to dry.

This is how the journal page looks when opened on the second page. I added a stonework quotation on the last page but I can write over this stenciled patterns if I want to.

I hope you like today's project.

It is time for a giveaway! I am giving away a set of BPM stencils that was sent as extra to me by BPM's lovely owner, Kim (Thank you, Kim!). She agreed for me to offer it as a giveaway.
