Welcome to our Day of The Dead Art - Celebration!
For the next couple of days, we'd like to share with you some mixed media art,
created by some of our inspiration team members.
Enjoy

Today is day 1.

This "Faux Stained Glass" piece was created by Michelle Frae Cummings who is a mixed media artist based out of California, USA. These are her stamp designs for Blank Page Muse.

This piece I created by stamping  Sugar Skulls onto white tissue paper and coloring in with colored markers. You can see the full tutorial here.

Spider from Halloween on a shelf

Other Supplies:
3in. punch
110lb cardstock
Watercolor paper
Distress Oxide inks

Start off the same for all 3 Artist Trading Coins. Used a 3in. punch for these ones. More space to work in. Punch 2 circles from 110lb cardstock. Glue them together. That is for the middle. Then punch some circles from watercolor paper.
Color the watercolor paper with the Distress Oxide ink and the smooching technique.
Stamp Silhouette tree  on the bottom of the circle.
Stamp Bat from Halloween on a shelf 2 times above the trees.
Add sticker saying to it. Glue to the middle circles made earlier.  Edge with black ink.
Stamp Spider web from Halloween on a shelf on top of circle.
 Emboss with white embossing power.
Stamp Spider from Halloween on a shelf with black ink on circle. Use a white pen and draw a line to the web.
Add sticker saying and rub-on. Glue to the middle center made earlier. Edge with black ink.

Stamp Silhouette tree  on the bottom of the circle.
Next stamp Flying Owl with moon over the tree.
Glue a saying to the front and then glue it to the middles made before. Edge with black ink.

Adventure.....

Hi Again Blank Page Muse Stamps Fans!!
Hope you are all enjoying this spooky month of October and our Fall themed posts here at the blog!!
Today I've created a small page in one of my mixed media journals - you know Blank Page Muse Stamps are just perfect for any creation and I always love being able to use them in my journal pages!

This page is great for using up scraps - you know the bits & pieces you never want to throw away in case the day comes when you can create with them LOL Today is the Day!!!!!
Supplies:
  • Blank Page Muse Stamp: Adventure Stencil Style Word
  • Journal or Plain White Page
  • Scraps of Autumn/Fall coloured patterned paper, tissue paper + plain printed tissue paper &paper doiley
  • Watercolour Paint or thin acrylic paint
  • Black Embossing Powder & Embossing Ink Pad &White Card
  • General supplies: Gesso, Matt Medium, glue, scissors, paint brush, spatula, heat gun, embellishment of choice
Instructions:
Add a coat of Gesso to your page with a paint brush or spatula. Allow to dry. I like to use a spatula for a messy and more textured finish!

Gather some scraps of various sorts of paper: patterned card, patterned tissue paper, printed tissue paper, doiley etc. Any scraps with complimentary colours will work!

Using a Matt Medium arrange and adhere your strips to the page. Stick to one side and about a third of the way down. The idea is to leave white space for effect. Allow to dry.

Water down some paint and use a paint brush to spread it over the collaged papers and some of the white page background. Allow to dry once again!

Trim the excess pieces overhanging the page. LOL don't throw them out you might be able to sue them for a future creation!!!!!

Stamp the Bird stamp into white card with the embossing ink and black embossing powder and use your heat gun to emboss and then fussy cut.

Use embellishments of your choice - used here yellow cotton and scrap of muslin fabric.

Adhere the fabric and cotton along with the stamped bird on your page.

Stamp, emboss and cut out the Adventure word stamp. Place on the journal page and adhere with glue.

You have a finished page - I'm not normally one for white space but I do like this effect - hope you do too and have enjoyed the process!!
Hope you enjoy the last few days of the month!
I will be back next month with more stamping inspiration!

Son of a Witch!

'Tis the season for witches, but let's not forget the Warlocks! This dapper dude just screams Halloween to me.

Blank Page Muse Products Used:
Steampunk Gentleman
Halloween Bingo Board
Oh, Son-of- a-Witch

Other Products Used:
Distress Inks in Seedless Preserves, Wilted Violet, Shaded Lilac, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn Crushed Olive, and Black Soot
Distress Oxide Ink in Hickory Smoke
Distress Markers in Mowed Lawn, Dried Marigold, Hickory Smoke, Antique Linen, Dusty Concord, and Mustard Seed
Archival Ink in Jet Black and Coffee
Sizzix Die Tattered Banners
Cardstock
Adhesive
Waterbrush
Sewing Machine

On your craft mat smoosh on the purple shades of ink and run your paper through so the entire surface is covered. Wipe your ink up( wipe ink up between each layer)  Dry the base layer and smoosh more purple on the craft mat to get splats and dots. Dry this layer.

Smoosh greens on the craft mat and tap the paper into the ink.  Don't rub or you'll get mud.  Dry the greens.

Smoosh on Hickory Smoke Oxide ink and tap the paper into the ink.  Let this layer air dry.  It's important to let the Oxide air dry to get the oxide effect.  Stamp the Halloween Bingo Board on the background using archival ink.  Edge the paper with black soot ink.  Stitch all around the edge of the cardstock.
Cut out the banner and stamp on the Oh, Son-of- a-Witch stamp.  You can alter your stamps by either not inking the word or snipping the saying apart.  For this card the "oh" wasn't used.  Stamp the saying onto the banner.  Adhere the banner to the bottom of the background.

Stamp the Steampunk Gentleman on heavy watercolor cardstock.  Color in the gentleman using a waterbrush and Distress Markers.  Cut out the gentleman and then ink all the edges with black soot ink.  Glue the Steampunk Gentleman to the background.

The rest of the card is just layered up with various cardstocks.

Mixed Media Amethyst Druzy Tag WIP Oct 25

Want to learn how to create this sparkling Druzy effect?
 Check out the tutorial  below.

Stencil mask
Modeling paste
Card
Ink pads
Mist sprays
Crackle glaze
Glitter
Gems

Spray a blank tag with purple mist sprays, then use a variety of purple colored inks to stamp randomly around the tag.
Apply the modeling paste with a stencil and leave to dry.

Stamp out the flowers on to scrap card that has been sprayed over with mist sprays.
Cut them out and apply some glue to the centers of the larger flowers.
Sprinkle still wet glue with glitter, then seal with crackle glaze.
This will take a few hours to set before you can add them to the tag.

Add burlap and a die-cut background to the center of the tag.
I buy white burlap and either paint or ink it to match the color scheme.
Decorate with gems and sequins.

Once the crackle glaze has set, a faux druzy effect will appear..

Witchy Halloween Card

Which witch is which?  I am normally not much of a witch person but I love this stamp.  I kept envisioning this beautiful women trying to look scary in a witch costume. I love how this turned out but may try again trying to make her a little uglier! To recreate this card you will need the following:

Archival Ink
Distress Ink and water Brush
Cardstock - white, black

Start by stamping witch from Haunted House Witch Gypsy Zombie Set of 4 Line Art Rubber Stamps by Rick St Dennis  onto white card stock.

Color image with distress inks.

Mat onto black cardstock. Stamp webs onto card base and then attach matted witch to card to finish.

I hope this project inspired your inner stamping muse!

Happy Haunting Card - Masking Technique

Hey BPM Fans,
Here is quick background done using a simple masking technique and blending distress inks.  It is a useful technique that allows you layer your stamping and avoid having to fussy cut a intricate and delicate image like this witch silhouette.

Other Supplies:
  • black ink pad
  • silver mirror cardstock
  • orange, green, purple ink pads
  • ink blending tool
  • silver glitter embossing powder
  • heat gun
  • decorative buttons
  • clear mounting block
Directions:
1. First stamp the witch silhouette onto the middle of white cardstock using black ink.  Without re-inking, stamp the witch onto scrap card.  Create a mask by cutting around the witch leaving a generous border.  (TIP: The mask does not need a perfect image as it is going to be discarded and will not appear on the final project.)

2.  Next, place the mask over witch image. Load the cobweb stamp with embossing ink and stamp the design over the masked witch image.

3. Remove and discard the mask.  Then apply silver glitter embossing powder to the cobwebs, shake off the excess, and heat set.

4. Next, apply ink to the background using a ink blending tool. Add lime green around the witch to create an eerie glow and then blend orange & purple randomly to bring out the cobweb background pattern.

5. Matte the stamped image with silver mirror cardstock and adhere to a black card base. Next, add a 3D embellishment for her to hold.

6. Then stamp a "Happy Haunting" greeting using black ink and matte with silver mirror cardstock. Adhere it to the lower right partially overlapping the edge of the card.  Finally, embellish the card with cat button.
