Fairy Mushroom Chipboard Book

Hello everyone!  Today is the start of a new month with Sin City Stamps, and August proves to be yet another fun partnership with our good friends over at Altered Pages.  The designers on both teams will be using the theme "Fairies" for the first half of the month.  So be sure to stop by both blogs to see all the inspiration from everyone.

In keeping with the fairies theme, and because I received this awesome little Mushroom Chipboard Book from Sin City Stamps and lots of fairy collage images from Altered Pages, I made this adorable little mini book.

My Manifesto

Heeey, it's Robin Redd (a.k.a. RockinReddRobin!)

This week, I did another art journal page.
This lesson was taken from Effy Wild's Book of Days class.

The top and bottom border is made with strips of masking tape.
The masking tape lays underneath a selfie that is printed on simple copy paper.

I used Punchinella to stencil on the sides of my photo,
then turned the Punchinella over and stamped with it around my art journal page.

I doodled, with a gold metallic pen, little squares to frame the entire layout.
I stamped the swirl from the Art Journaling with Terri Sproul 2 stamp set, and the Believe in Yourself from the Fairies & Blossoms stamp set.

And I just love the pointing finger from the Classic Spark stamp set.
I hope I've inspired you to create something today.
Until next time...

As Time Goes By

TGIF! Hello Peggy here to show you how I made this card using Sin City Stamps.
List of supplies used today are:
Sin City Stamps - clock, steampunk background stamp
Swirl stencil by Sin city Stamps
Chipboard
Metal gear embellishment,  clock hands
Black stazon ink
Gold acrylic paint
Perfect pearls petina set
Distress Inks
Ribbon
Cardstock

I started with making a clock out of chipboard. I cut a circle  and little strips for roman numerals. I then glued each piece in place. I was not sure how I was going to color the background, so I had to play around a bit. I stamped my first clock in stazon black ink as I knew I would later be adding more ink and I did not want it to smudge.
Next I played with a new stencil from Sin City Stamps. I used a dabber and distress ink in aged mahogany.

I aged the cardboard with more disress ink. I painted with the perfect pearls to create a faux patina look and highlighted the numbers in gold acrylic.
I created my card base out of black cardstock and layered with DCWV patterned paper. I added some fabulous ribbon and put it all together. I used score tape for the paper and foam tape for the clock.

Here is my final project!
I hope you have enjoyed todays card. Come and check out what Sin City Stamps has to offer!

Meet our Design Team

We are so excited to introduce our brand new design team.

Terri Sproul - Team Leader

Terri Sproul is a CHA designer with her own stamps line from Sincity stamps and her own paint line with Sakura Hobby Crafts.  Her and her husband  of 15 years live on top of Palomar Mountain, near San Diego, Ca.  Terri Sproul is a Mixed Media artist with her own Live Art show on Tuesday nights.

Hello! I'm Graciela but my Brazilian family calls me Gracie Ellie, and that is the name I go by in the papercrafting community. I discovered papercrafting through cardmaking around 2010 and little by little, it became my passion. Since I opened my blog I've felt even more captivated by this craft and I've discovered that I also enjoy working with alternative projects that give me freedom to experiment with different techniques. My style goes from shabby chic to vintage, and I tend to create classic and feminine projects. My blog has allowed me to connect with other artists and has given me so many opportunities that I'm thankful for. Currently I'm part of various design teams that I enjoy to work with very much. Now Sin City Stamps welcomes me to a new team and I am so grateful to be part of it!

I look forward to sharing my work with you all. I believe the genuine nature of creativity is inside each of us, so I'd be delighted if you could join me in this journey!

Hugs from Honduras/Brazil,
Graciellie

My name is Barbara Rankin, and I am thrilled to be a part of The Sin City Stamps Design Team for another term. I have been a crafter since early childhood... always making things.  After pursuing many different artistic endeavors, such as sewing, needlework, and Pergamano (embossing on parchment), I found my way into rubber stamping and graduated into becoming a self-taught, mixed-media artist.  I have taught classes at my local scrapbook store, as well as teaching the members of my local stamp club.  I have also been a guest instructor at another out-of-state stamp club on several occasions.  I love making cards, tags, ATCs (Artist Trading Cards), as well as making and altering books and mini albums.  My style is usually vintage or shabby chic, with a sprinkling of steampunk whenever possible.  I am also currently a design team member for Altered Pages.  I have been published in Altered Arts Magazine, as well as in a book "Make it in Minutes: Mini Books".  I was also published in the Just Steampunk Volumes 2 and 4 magazines, as well as Crafts n' Things e-zine.  I have a wonderful, supportive husband of thirty years, and we share our home with our two cute little Yorkie fur babies, Chloe and Zoe.

Christmas in July

Peg here to share with you a fun technique to use on darker card stock.  This technique is called Black Magic Stamping and quickly become a favorite of mine.  I know you'll love using it, too!

You will need these items:  Peg Rounds Christmas Stamps,  Colored Pencils and Blender Pencil, White Ink Pad, Dark Colored Card Stock, Card Stock for Card Base, Patterned Paper
Start by stamping the image and sentiment onto the dark card stock using a white ink pad.  Allow the ink to dry and then use a heat tool to set the ink.  This helps to thoroughly dry it and to set the ink so it doesn't smear.
Color parts of the image in with the colored pencils while leaving other areas white.  Use the blending pencil to blend the pencil marks and continue to layer on the color; blending in between each layer until you have the look that you like.

Create the card base and layer a piece of patterned paper on top.  Add the stamped image to finish off the card.

July is the time to start those holiday cards so that you have them done early!  Use this fun and easy technique to make your cards stand out from the rest.  Head on over to Sin City Stamps website and purchase what you will need to have Christmas in July or at least get a start on the holiday.

Have a great day everyone!

"Time Flies" Again by Linda Hess

Hard to believe that 6 months have passed since I began my time with the Sin City Stamps design team, but here I am posting my last project!

With "time" in mind I look back at time with my husband, a man who has been in my life off and on since high school.  Fell flat on my face for him at 16 and always had him in my heart (even as we were apart and dating others)...sometimes the heart truly knows what is right.  26 yrs of marriage (won't tell you how many since I was 16!) and 3 beautiful children we are almost (but not quite) to the empty nest stage.  WOAH...how the heck did that happen when we haven't changed a bit?

Mixed media has become my "medium" of choice.  Off to the studio I go to collect a bit of this and a bit of that...

Materials:
http://www.sincitystamps.com  : Couples Clock UM rubber stamp, Time Flies UM rubber stamp, New Year's Chipboard Book
ComposiMold  (http://composimold.com/)
polymer clay (I use Premo!Sculpey for most of my claying needs)
ColorBox Archival Dye ink (http://www.clearsnap.com)
small canvas (6"x6" shown)
acrylic paint
sponge or brush
The Ultimate Glue (www.crafterspick.com)

First, I cut away the wording from the "Time Flies" and set it aside. The couples clock and the flying clock were taped with double stick tape into a metal tray.  ComposiMold was melted according to directions and poured over the stamps.
I let it set from about 15-20 minutes to make sure it was completely gelled before removing the mold from the tray...PERFECT!

Clay was pressed firmly into the molds. Once removed, edges were cleaned up (trimmed) before inking.

 .
I tried adding cane slices to the mold for extra detail on the wings.  As you can see, they didn't really work when pressed into the mold, so I cut them off.  After inking the watch image I added cane slices to make it fly
ColorBox Archival ink was patted on top of the polymer clay clock and watch to bring out the design.  Patience is a virtue when inking as it never inks completely on the first try.  I patted the ink pad back and forth, up and down, and then back and forth again before getting it completely covered.

Once inked place clay pieces into the oven to bake (275 degrees for 15-20 minutes).

While those bake, paint the canvas, small chipboard plaque, and 2 chipboard gears in color of choice (I used Deco Art's Dazzling Metallics in Splendid Gold).

Once plaque is dry, ink "Time Flies" saying and stamp. [note: I found it was easier to perfectly place the saying if the plaque was placed on top of the stamp rather than the other way around]  Gently press edges onto stamp pad to "age" and highlight.

Now to put everything together.  Pictures are cut to fit.  I used a corner paper punch to curve the edges.

Pictures are layered with chipboard & polymer clay components.
Hmmmm, something is missing....off to the cabinets I run.....
Pearl Dots are the perfect final touch to this super simple canvas!

Everything can now be glued in place.  Once dry, it will be ready to hang.  Now to find a space on my wall :-)

My Story

Hello!  It's Robin Redd (a.k.a. RockinReddRobin!)
I found this video tutorial online and thought this journal page is perfect for my Sin City Stamps!

I'm, very much, into learning how to draw faces.  This one in particular is a 'whimsical' face.

After sketching out the face, shoulders and hair, I  went to my collage stash.  My collage stash are papers I painted myself at various times via various methods, i.e. Gelli Print, random painting, stencils.

I chose to use this one.  I found it fitting for this wonderful summer season we are in.

I tore up my collage paper into many, many quarter-size pieces.

Then, I collaged them onto the background of my girl.

I still can't get too far out of the box with my 'whimsical' look.
Although, she's not completely realistic, she's not as whimsical as I'd like.

I used my Art Journaling with Terri Sproul 2 stamps.

After stamping with a coordinating color, I embossed with a sparkly, clear embossing powder.
Because the ink was going onto the paint and gel medium that I laid onto the page,
first, the ink stayed wet a while.
I sprinkled, liberally, onto the stamped images and shook the excess off,
back into the embossing powder container.

I heat set the embossing powder slowly, to keep the collage papers and paint from bubbling up.

Look how pretty this lovely swirl looks after the heat embossing is complete.

This is the great set I used for this art journal page.  Perfect!

I hope I have inspired you to create something today.

Until next time...
